There's no such thing as "greatest", it's simply down to personal preference. And as far as that's concerned, my vote would be to Bruce Springsteen.

Thats why I asked who do you think. I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

I'd even classify him as the greatest singer if you want, but not as the greatest rock singer surely.

Mick Jagger. . Best and most enduring, classics like Satisfaction, Jumping Jack Flash, Start me up, Brown Sugar, Angie, Tumbling dice and Rocks Off will never be topped. . I know you all are laughing, but classic Stones are amazing. . Freddie Mercury and Axl Rose are right up there too. I got plenty good loving for ya baby

. I don't know about 'greatest', and I had to think about this one, going back and forth between Ian Gillan and Robert Plant, and also considering Axl Rose... but when it comes down to it, for me it can be no other than Corey Glover: . . How many lead singers can boast that they sound like this^ at age 50? . Also as an aside, Living Colour as a unit just blows me away. The chemistry between Glover, Reid, Calhoun, and Wimbish is nothing short of explosive. And also Muzzy on the bass for the first couple years before Doug took over. . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

A subjective thing so impossible to say definitively ...
... but its gotta be Freddie. What's a singers job really? To belt out a tune to the best of their ability and be a stunning frontman. [Edited 8/7/18 8:34am] www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Can you imagine the other two doing a Blue & Lonesome album? Or even Little Red Rooster? Rock music is nothing if you can't sing or play the blues. So I'd like to add Jim Morrison to the list.

This can bgo so many ways for me, but here it goes (as it relates to Classic Rock era):
1) Freddie Mercury-particularly the Queen era prior to The Game. 2) Jimi Hendrix-Not a great vocalist in the classical sense, but the ability in which he merged his blues stylings (vocally) to his guitar playing made for a perfect marriage. 3) David Bowie-The pre-Ziggy, Ziggy, Diamond Dogs, and Thin White Duke eras were so distinctly different in sound, yet his vocals kept pace each time.

That is what I was thinking. Mick can do the blues and he does them really well. Most of the pre 1966 Rolling Stones output was pure blues songs. . Plus Mick can do R&B, Rock, Hard Rock, Punk, Pop and Dance vocals all very well. I chose Mick for his versatility and durability. He may be a lot of weird things and is known for his lips, ego and insatiable libido - but he has the chops to prove it. . Love Bowie but always saw him as more avant garde/alternative bordering into pop rather than straight ahead rock music. I got plenty good loving for ya baby

I don't know who the "greatest" is but here's some: Steve Winwood You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Doug Pinnick(King's X).
Guy Speranza-RIP(Riot). Probably Guy's best showing is on the album Fire Down Under.
Biff Byford(Saxon).
Myles Goodwyn(April Wine). Steve Marriott(Humble Pie-Small Faces). RIP, he was one of the best...

depends on your criteria, singing range and ability? Ability to communicate with masses of folks? two different things. Lots of great ones, jackie wilson, roy orbison, Elvis, Axl Rose, mccartney, freddie mercury, james brown, little richard? All of them bring something a bit different to the table. My favorite rock and roll singer, stressing the words "Rock and Roll" is Little Richard, no one did it like him. If you want pureness of timbre, range you might pick freddie mercury or Roy orbison or someone else. some of the heavy metal singers are quite incredible too although they may not get the attention, chris cornell was someone i considered the best out of the seattle rockers and certainly a great one.
