Just finished Larry's book. Must read for any fan of the band. Read it in about a day. Page turner I could not put it down. Some holes in the story but told me a lot of what I needed to know about the whole BarKays situation.

I gotta read it!

You will be glad you did. What I wanna know is, just who is Allen Jones? Never seen him. I had no idea his stranglehold on the band's creative juices was so tight. Larry says there is only 1 pic of him, somehow caught him for the inner sleeve of the Injoy vinyl, which I do not have.

There were also a picture of him on the Barkays Unsung as well. He was a Stax writer and producer who groomed the Barkays under his wing. Allen Jones produced Stax artists as well as bands like the Barkays, Ebonee Webb who's lead singer had a Prince falsetto, Kwick, and Chocolate Milk in the early 80's. Very surprised to hear the dirt on Allen in Larry's book.

Man when I first started to hear Ebonee Webb on the radio in the early 80's I said to some friends that sounds like Prince fronting the BarKays lol. Now I see that is exactly the way it was designed to sound.

I just came across this fascinating documentary called Memphis Soul. Never seen it before. Has Larry and the guys at about the 33:30 mark with Willie Mitchell at the mixing board.

If you listen to the Allen Jones produced Chocolate Milk albums Milky Way and Friction

you would think it's Larry Dodson on vocals. That documentary is dope. ConFunkShun putting

in work in Memphis before they blew up. The Barkays in the studio working their magic and the

Soul Children singing on the tracks.

Yeah they had some nice gems even before they started working with Allen Jones.
