Yes Erykah Badu was a RIOT up there talking about she was everybodys vocal coach showing clips of her back in the day acting a fool on stage with Run DMC LOL.

"Guess who was Keith Sweat vocal coach"

Michael Blackson: "Who?"

"NOBOOODYY!"

falloff

Toni Braxtons tribute was wonderful. Jessie J almost sound just like her on stage and Luke James was amazing...wow those vocals.

Keyshia Cole got a standing ovation for her perfomance

Kirk Franklin was also very good up there and brought the house down!!

Thank you to the 2017 Soul Train Awards Show (and the ladies and gentlemen that participated in it) that, the way it always does, has its usual A on-the-report card level mix of classy, sexy, funny, master-level soulful, elite funkiness and joyful performances. Thankfully the sexy part were frequently aggressively such as the peek-a-boo vest from Keyshia Cole. Ms. Badu again provided skillful, funny, socially-aware, adept MC management of the show in her usual funky elegance that is her way. My only little could-be-improved feedback is that the show could have a had a little more definite 70’s related content R&B content to make sure that it clearly honors every decade of Soul Train’s existence (i.e. a performer and/or at least a presenter like recent shows that included Eddie Levert, Charlie Wilson, Glady Knight, etc.) On the other hand, you could say that the finish of the 2017 awards show did clearly honor the 70s era Soul Train episodes with the use of the classic Soul Train line. If you missed this one, you’ll find it worthy of your time if you watch if and when BET broadcasts it again in the next few weeks and\or months.

You know what would be amazing? If the Jacksons performed their 70s hits on this show. I know they tour on a small scale but that would bring a good balance and doesn't need to be marketed as an mj tribute though it would obviously pay a tasteful homage to him and their musical legacy

Soul Train and BET have done enough hailing to the older legends let some of the new legends get some love for once. This is the first time I have seen Toni Braxton get some attention like this. She been out since 1992 and got a new album coming out, her single has been successful on the R&B charts and in the top ten.

The highlights for me were the opening number and the Soul Cypher segment with Fantasia and Bilal. The tribute to Toni Braxton should have been done by her sisters. Ro was good and Luke hit some serious notes but I was not at all impressed with Jesse J.

I thought that Ro and Luke James were going to do their own songs like Tank did. Love Tank.

Tamar Braxton is strange.

Overall it was pretty good though.

Soul Train Awards is one of the few that I still watch.

I'm rewatching what I missed on Youtube because my damn stream kept cutting out.

Erykah was the absolute best through the whole show. She started the show by taking a knee and it was on from there.

Jessie J did a great job covering Toni. Cool to see 112 and SWV too. They should have done a full Peaches and Creme. They teased part of it and switched gears. Slim sounds like his vocals are a bit more fuller now too.
