You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Man, I'm African-American, but I used to listen to them back in the day, when they were at the peak of their popularity. When I was growing up, I bought the album with the Reflex on it. I used to love that and New Moon on Monday. I had no idea what the hell Simon Le Bon was saying with their crazy lyrics, but I dug it anyway.

I bought their greatest hits back in the day too. Ordinary World was a semi-return to their former glory. I'm gonna buy the song, eventually. It's been a good 5 to 7 years or more, since it was released. So, I"m a little behind.

More like 1993 but no one's counting.

Holy shit!

I'm a little behind. I think I need to step on the gas, you whippersnappers. Buying it on Amazon, now, as I finish typing this.

Duran Duran was 'my' band back then, but i found them unlistenable in their second incarnation (incl this clip)
Still play anything up to Power Station very regularly

Been a fan since the early 80s! This song is truly one of their best, which is saying a lot.

fantastic thoughtful song.. I've always loved it....so much that it became a staple of my learning on guitar (chords, I'm a bassist)....AND THEN later as a karaoke song.

I've always liked the band. Until I got a job and had my own money, I never knew who sang half of those songs I grew up hearing on everybody else's radios.

Faves:

The Chauffer

Last Day on Earth (Hollywood rec version of the band)

Someone Else Not Me (ditto)

PLanet Earth

Come Undone

MEddazzaland

Who do you think you are

The Sun Doesn't Shine Forever

I'm prob in the minority, but I pretty much dislike (and think theyre trash) NOTORIOUS, BIG CITY, RED CARPET MASSACRE etc...

The new album Paper Dolls/idols or whatever...was pretty good. capped off with a great lead single

Thank You is definitely my least favorite of their albums. Red Carpet Massacre is divisive, but it's one of my favorites. That being said, All You Need Is Now is their best album since the 80s IMO and Paper Gods is a worthy follow up.

Their biggest problem now is finding inspiration. There's a reason "critics" had said "their return to the Duran Duran sound" ....it's because the past album was produced trying desperately to be derivative of their early work. I've forgotten which tracks but there's one that's so embarrassingly much a rip off of The Chauffeur that they should've called it THE CHAUFFEUR II or RETURN TO THE CHAUFFEUR.

I loved pop trash because it was such an oddity. ..seemed like GROWTH. ...until i heard the stories about writers block and that it's basically Rhodes and Cuccurillo

Can't agree there...I think they've managed to find a good balance. Mark Ronson was the perfect choice as producer for this band at this stage and I was ecstatic with such a strong group of songs.
