I frickin' love Michael Kiwanuka!
Listened to his first album endlessly back in 2012, and got his second last year when I was back in Canada. It's challenging, but worthy... (the first one is much more accessible).
There aren't enough artists like him nowadays. We need more like him. (Please disappear Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj and other sellout ego-maniacs).
What's crushing, though, is that I've missed TWO opportunities to see him live in Tokyo clubs. Both times he came here, my new semester at the university was starting the next morning, early, and I didn't think I could go downtown, watch a show until midnight, get back on the ever-crowded trains, and then be up at six and in the classrooms, ready to go.
This, of course, means I'm too old. [Edited 7/7/17 8:00am] |
