She tries WAY too hard and the way they are "branding" her is contrived. Her previous albums and sound was more authentic than this. I didn't get this performance at all and don't see how it has anything to do with the song. At least with the twigs, their performances actually go with the song and has a theme. I dunno, Solange is trying too hard to be different with this new album and it wasn't even all of that. I liked True better.

You say this but Solange has always been dragged for being just a little TOO different. I remember when this video came out and people were like, "Why is she dancing in an empty mall? Why is her dancing so awkward?" What you see as trying too hard I and many others just see as natural progression.

And the album is hot. It may not be innovative, but it'll outlast a lot of its sources of inspiration.

No she hasn't. When her previous albums came out, people embraced her and embraced the fact that she was trying to experiment with different sounds. I really liked her last album and appreciated the fact that she wanted to go a different route with her music. HOWEVER, with this new album, it is not that good....its just not and she is clearly trying way to hard image wise/performance and a lot of her image IMO are Erykah Badu rip offs.

Maybe you're just in a more "upbeat" mood right now?

The album is "slow".

i dont know anyone who likes Solange as much as i do (maybe her family)...

that said, other than the amazing "Junie", "Cranes In The Sky", and "Rise", the album sucks...i love those 3 but the skits and remaining songs are all so unnecessary

It was a good performance, I thought, though I wasn't blown away by it. I'd have gone for it more if she'd focused on really nailing the vocal, rather than all that shuffling around with the other two. Sometimes, her shtick does seem a bit self-consciously 'artsy', and though that was likeably kooky before, these days, it's all got a bit ponderous and weighed down by an implied sense of import that it can't deliver on. Weary is one of the tracks on the album where it comes off for me, though, both musically and lyrically, and it's my favourite of the set - so it's good to hear it get a live airing. Though, tbh, given how striking the stage and backdrop looked, I'd have settled for her just singing it 'straight' with the musicians.

Performance art and singing--excellent! Taking the R&B scene up a notch--good for Solange and more power to her! I grreatly enjoyed that performance. cool
