God... I swear some of you on here are never happy.

Always whining about how music today isn't funky or rhythmic yet someone makes funky and/or rhythmic music and you call them "fake" (Bruno Mars) or call them Prince ripoffs like Bino here despite even if the artist isn't taking after Prince in any (major) way.

Some of you Prince fans are insufferable.

lol you old crusty beer belly ass orgers up in here. Y'all bitch because every year cause no ones ''funky'' anymore. Then Gambino makes a fire album with great fucking r&b and funk production. And y'all mad cause he inspired by prince? and that was not even a Prince rip off. Maybe y'all can't see over that beer gut of bullshit when ya sit your fat ass down to watch TV.

Hey, now...I may have a beer gut and all that, but I like the music. I've only heard bits from reviews on NPR, but I've liked what I heard...all I'm sayin' is the dude ain't sexy enough to pull that performance off.

I love Bruno.

Glover's voice is subpar in this, and even you can't deny that with good conscience. I don't think he's ripping off Prince. He's just irrelevant, IMO.

I wasn't saying that the performance was great necessarily but how unfairly some artists get labeled for doing what many (many, not all) on here want musically yet are still not good enough.

If you think Bino isn't that great, say that but you can't say he's irrelevant when he clearly isn't. I don't like Beyonce but one of the last things I would call her is irrelevant.

Yeah this song is definitely a huge Prince ripoff, the first time I heard it I couldn't believe how similar it sounded to his hit song "I'd Rather Be With You" from his 1976 album Stretchin' Out in Prince's Rubber Band.

This guy is like a black version of Eminem. If he was white, he would be huge. His falsetto is not bad and no better than Timberlake's. He has skills though. Check this out:

His first album Camp is a classic.

He is Huge, on the other side of entertainment. Acting and comedy.

lol

When people hear something similar to Prince, they forget that Prince learned alot of his stuff somewhere too. The falsettos on I'd Rather Be With You are from Gary "Mudbone" Cooper, and is probably what Gambino was going for. However, if you've sung some Prince songs in your life, it's not weird to take that Mudbone sound in the direction of Do Me Baby and If I Was Your Girlfriend. Prince does the sensual stuff a bit more erotic and hypnotizing than Mudbone.

Yeah, that's how I discovered him actually. He's even won awards. I guess I'm just talking about racism and how I think if he were white, he would be huge news. Questlove thinks he is great though and even tweeted D'Angelo in the middle of the night to tell him he had competition now.....lol.

I don't like him as an artist, actor, comedian or musician. Why every review labels him a "genius" I'll never know. I don't disagree with them; I just wish I could see/hear what they do. He seems so run-of-the-mill to me. But if you look at the reviews of his TV Shows, albums, etc. you will see people rave about him.

Agree nod but what gets me is how they turn around and compliment shittier artists. WHO CARES, if the the song sounds like Prince or Bootsy, its a nice song, better than 90 percent of what is on Top 40 radio now.

I saw the performance and none of it reminded me of Prince whatsoever, so I'm not sure where that is coming from. As for his voice, he actually sounded a bit nervous in the beginning but tried to clean it up near the end, but I don't think he was terrible. He needs a little work but I can respect his effort. He actually performed with both no shirt and no shoes on. I'm kind of amazed at how people are going in on his "flabbly" look...actually he looks like a normal guy. If he'd been built like "The Rock" or in some kind of overdosed steriod look with veins popping everywhere, would that had suited him better? disbelief

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This song is a rip off directly of" I would rather be with you " by Bootsy Collins, He cannot sing for shit and has no stage presence. Bruno has a decent voice and stage presence.

agreed...he even looked nervous AFTER the performance, when Jimmy Fallon and Elle Fanning came out to hug him...like he wasnt sure whether his performance came off or not...
