Under the hood is a hijab and under the poncho is an abaya.

no its not, she's been wearing a headband around her head. even if she is muslim janet has never covered her head unless she wears a hat, headband or hood.

I have seen her in the head band. Regardless, she is wearing an abaya under the poncho and my point is that should not be a problem for anybody.

She has worn Muslim attire before. It should not be an issue unless one is a bigot.

Although Janet is wearing a poncho - she is not stupid and knows she looks like she is wearing a hijab and people will take notice.

She is a fiercely private person and could be really discreet when walking around London, but she obviously wants people to see her like this - perhaps to tell the world that Strawberry is well and truly dead! neutral

I've been in denial about converting for sometime, but it is pretty clear she has embraced Islam.

I'm not going to hide the fact that I am disappointed - I love Janet because she has always been unapologetic about her sexuality - I fell in love with her not only for her music or videos, but because she was so effortlessly sexy - she oozed sex, it was a part of her.

As a spiritual person (who is neither Muslim or Christian) I find it hard to respect a person who changes their belief for a spouse. I could never abandon my religion for someone else no matter how hot or rich they are.

Fuck modesty!

It's just my two cents.

It looks like an abaya, and combined with the rest of what she's wearing in that photo, I would reach the same conclusion that she's in Islamic dres (even if it's the wrong conclusion).

And she must have known that is what people would think.

She's wearing a hijab. Not surprising. Despite all that talk about "Control" Janet has always leaned heavily on the men in her life. Her father, Jam & Lewis, Rene, Jermaine. Now it looks like she's embracing the Muslim culture of her new man. She is far from an independent woman.

So independent women can't have a man in their life, or a strong spiritual belief, or wear a hoodie? Got it.

No, apparently to be independent a woman has to be a manless, hatless athiest. rolleyes

It might sound strange to you
What you think it don't mean nothing at all
Doesn't change who I am
Doesn't change who I love

Living my life
The way that I hope
Is leading me to
The great forever
Forever I will choose
Watch what I'm doing
Watch where I'm going
Tryin' to get to
The great forever
Forever is the truth

It's not about having a man in your life it's about how you relate to the men in your life. In Janet's case she has always subsumed herself somewhat beneath her men. Rene wasn't just a partner, he was a manager, co-writer, creative director and much more besides. Same goes for Jermaine. Same goes for her father before then and even Jam & Lewis to some extent. They provided the direction she couldn't find herself because she never had a strong identity.

Now with this Wissam guy we see the same pattern repeating in a different way. She is wearing Islamic clothing because Wissam is a Muslim. Is he changing his dress style to suit her? No, it's the other way around. She is changing to accomodate him.

The truth is it's okay to be more traditional if that suits you best. It's just a shame that she was sold to the public as some kind of a strong, independent woman. Because she simply is not.

That is pure conjecture on your part. Men and women often change religions or beliefs when they get married. Jews convert to Christianity, and vice versa. Janet is no different. It's not like she just showed up married, & then was forced to change without notice. She knew his reilgion, and culture, and made a conscience choice to adopt that as her own to whatever extent she felt comfortable with. Obviously, she's not balls deep in it, as her hair was out and she was writhing and dancing on the Unbreakable World Tour earlier this year. Besides, if he changed for her, what is he going to change to? Janet isn't a JW anymore. Do we know her beliefs? Better yet - is it even our business? NOPE.

"This Wissam guy"? How rude & dismissive. The rest of the world without a cob in their butt call him her husband. The whole point of my original post is that it doesn't matter what she wears or why. I don't believe it's "full Islamic dress". She's not in Rome, or necessarily doing what the Romans do. In fact, it was just a week or two prior that she was in sweats only shopping. Not Islamic wear then. She's also in London, where they aren't exactly friendly toward women in Islamic wear.

Whether you want to call it "full Islamic dress" or not it is clearly Islamic wear. And yes, you're right she's not in a country that has an Islamic dress code. So she's obviously doing it for love.

I don't have a problem with it, but it does confirm what I was saying about a decade ago on this forum. She doesn't really know who she is. So she feels more comfortable when she has a man to lead her. It's a trend you can see throughout her life. I wouldn't even say anything if it weren't for the fact that she was sold to the public as an "independent woman".

Would this be a big deal if the Hillary camp hadn't chose the song Nasty as some kind of montra. In fact since Janet's been married we've never seen her dressed like this, they did not just marry. I mean I've seen her in pictures with her husband with jeans on, so I doubt she chose this particular outfit to appease him. Maybe a bigger statement is afoot, maybe not. It's one of many outfits we've seen her in.

Wasn't surprised by this fake story by the Mirror/other media which posted on their websites saying that Janet was "wearing Muslim attire". She wasn't wearing "Muslim attire" but actually she was wearing an outfit similar to what she was wearing the other 2 times she was spotted pregnant in London. I mean the 3 times the paparazzi she was photographed in London she had a thick headband (yes a headband not Hijab), loose pants/skirt, and comfortable shoes. And then just added the poncho to the oufit.

This comment has a lot of truth to it. It brings to mind the glory of YouTube and a clip that's posted there of one of Janet's earliest awards show performances and the one that really put her on the map and made us all stand up and pay attention. It was when she performed 'Nasty' at the Grammys....in my opinion one of the best breakout award show performances I've ever seen to this day. But if you listen closely to the audio of this live performance, just in the background, you can here an enthusiastic voice commanding and directing Janet through every move she makes

I'm just giving a heads up to newer forum members that you have an unhealthy dislike for Janet. Everything you post about her is negative and often unbalanced. I recall that you once posted your delight that she is no longer popular after SB as you believed she never deserved her success - someone who has those opinions definitely is a Janet hater hence you fit that description perfectly.

I can't comprehend why someone takes such an interest in someone they have little respect for. You wouldn't catch me posting something about Eminem unless I was trolling, but that ain't my style.

It seems to be an outfit that can be handily turned into something that follows the Islamic rules.

It might not be the case that the husband himself is really forcing her into toning down her appearance. They might be seeing business associates of his and so on.

Errr, I don't take such an interest. I comment on her about once every three or four years. The only time I ever hear of her is when I come onto this forum. I was a casual fan back in the 90s, then I woke up around about the end of the decade. If not for the org I would know nothing about her after the Superbowl.

And for the record, I am by far the most objective commentator about her on these threads. The rest of you guys are so far gone that you're even denying the evidence of your own eyes and pretending that she's not wearing Muslim attire in that picture.
