I think Rebel Heart is a strong album....a vibrant mix of fun, playful songs and songs that are more introspective and dig deeper, lyrically. The album isn't perfect but the highlights are plentiful: "Devil Pray","Wash All Over Me","Body Shop","Ghosttown","Messiah","Beautiful Scars","Inside Out","Illuminati",etc. And take a listen to the numerous demos and outtakes.....some truly amazing songs! This was a very creative, inspired era.
No one mentions Living For Love, i think is a great video should have been a number one single. In the other hand the video is horrible.
"Living For Love" is a good song, but there were so many better choices for the first single. |

In my opinion that song is the best choice for first single. |

I'm thinking that "Iconic" would have been a good first single |

Perhaps, but no the album version which i find a little overproduced. |

Quite frankly, I like the sound quality on the demo version of the album that leaked before the official album came out. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I would have gone
-illuminati
-devil pray (not a fave of mine, but everyone and their mother is all about it)
-icnoic
-joan of arc
none of the existing singles would have been on my top picks...but I get why a more classically melodic ear like M would choose the 3 she did (first 2 at least) I'll leave it alone babe...just be me |

I agree so much with this, I do too, better audio and versions - I just hope she doesnt over process this DVD release like she did her last tour, she ruined that release. Thank you Prince for every note you left behind π |

^^I agree...the MDNA tour DVD was a mess....sloppy editing, too much post-production and tinkering with the vocals. They clearly used footage from several different shows and it was frustrating to view that DVD.I went to two shows on that tour and it was amazing.Unfortunately, the DVD wasn't done properly. |

So agree. Loved that show!
She should be left out of the editing room for her tours...i felt that COAD was a mess too. I would comment on Sticky and Sweet if i ever watched it. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me |

And that's really the first time I'd ever seen a concert DVD produced in such a way. The thing that got me was when she was lowered into the smaller stage at the end of the catwalk, and they CGI's in the whole floor tile. So instead of a hole, she was literally melting into the floor as a whole. Very cool little element. I didn't mind, too much, the back and forth with the video elements going full screen on the DVD, but you did miss parts of the show that way.
The editing in things like "Jump" and "Music/Disco Inferno" was superb. Other elements in the show itself like the parkour during "Jump", the carousel horse for "Like A Virgin" (and the video of x-rays of her broken bones from her own horse riding accident), and the Arab and Jew interlocking arms during "Forbidden Love", and the dancer in a burqa in "Isaac" were all compelling. "Live To Tell" was also as powerful visually.
The big disco ball at the intro reminded me of "Express Yourself" in The Girlie Show, but with a twist. I loved the costumes in the opening number - the half suit/half leather harness. There was a slight minotaur ideology in the dancers as part horse, or having equine behaviors. Those costumes during the opening songs also reminded me of the bare bones vests and jackets in "Keep It Together" from Blond Ambition Tour.
Even with all that, it seemed lighter and airier than the denser and darker Drowned World Tour with it's goth punk, industrial, and cowboy aesthetics.

Whenever Gaultier and Madonna team up, it's magical! I wish she worked with him on all her tours! 3121... Don't U Wanna Come? |
