RIP Jazz Engineer Rudy Van Gelder

http://www.factmag.com/20...jazz-dies/

.

"Jazz engineer Rudy Van Gelder has died at age 91. He recorded with legendary artists like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and more and an impressive majority of the Blue Note Records catalog. He was viewed by some as the most important jazz engineer of all time. He also worked with Prestige Records and Savoy Records."

Created a dupe thread on this. He was an essential figure. Paradise is going to sound even more heavenly.

Rest peacefully.

Wow. How did I miss this.

RIP

I've always been blown away by what this guy did during the days when recording equipment and mixing techiques were still so rudimentary. Always marveled his ability to craft such three-dimensional soundscapes and bring the music into life. There are so many times I've listened to a record from the 60s that he worked on and have enjoyed how the different instruments sound. I prefer his approach over what's come after him, honestly.
