blonde is very, very good! i think it will rub a lot of people the wrong way. it's a real left turn. it's very abstract, very experimental, very low-key. most of the songs don't have drums. great impressionistic lyrics. i personally enjoyed it a lot. as far as albums as career moves and follow ups to debuts, it reminds me of what Terence Trent D'Arby did with Neither Fish Nor Flesh. Give it a listen

I think Rolling Stone even labeled it Avant-Garde Soul.

I hear the magazine is like a stream of consciousness of his influences which, dare I say it, screams "hipster" to me. He's got an indy streak and black-nerd backpack sensibilities.

So the whole round of I-just-don't-get-it, he's-way-overrated and "he sucks" critiques will be battling for top billing for the rest of the year, when there's plenty of mainstream acts that everyone loves like Drake and Beyonce to satisfy your palete if you so desire.

Singer Now Set For Huge Pay Day

The singer’s name has been a staple in the music sphere this week following the unannounced release of two albums – visual LP ‘Endless’ and sophomore effort ‘Blonde.’

Per projections, the latter is on course to not only open at #1 on the Billboard 200, but double the sales of its predecessor (2012’s ‘Channel Orange’) in the process.

Hits Daily Double report that ‘Blonde’ was actually rolled out as an independent release via Ocean’s Boys Don’t Cry label. Distribution was handled by Fresh Produce.

Intriguingly, ‘Endless’ apparently fulfilled the singer’s contractual obligation to Universal Music (to whom he was signed by way of Def Jam).

The gag (#NoKeKe) is that he’ll now reap an estimated 70% of the revenue from sales and streams, rather than the 20% of 70% (specifically 14%) that he would be entitled to on a major label.

So with sales strong and streams forecast to top 75 million on Apple Music alone, Ocean is swimming to more wins than one!

It's a waste of time visually yes, if you just play the music alone and do other work while listening then you're OK. From first impressions, Blonde is the better album of the two although I like the way he twisted At Your Best You Are Love more towards Aaliyah's version than The Isley Brothers.

I haven't heard Endless, but did buy Blonde.

Blonde , on first listen, is a hit-and-miss affair. Sounds like he was going for a good kid, m.A.Ad. city -meets- Sea Change kind of vibe. Maybe I'll like it more with a few more spins.

He's got a promising career ahead of him.

I like that he is different, and dares to stay true to that. I will make myself listen to it.
