I have a lot of 1980s movie soundtracks, and it seems like the blend you are talking about was made for it.

Here's one from a John Candy movie produced by Maurice White:

I wouldn't exactly call this one New Wave but it's an excellent produced track for Atlantic Starr.

It was actually one of the few tracks I liked from their Barbara Weathers run and actually

the only one from this particular album. It would have been nice if the Lewis brothers would have allowed Maurice to produce a few tracks for this album.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I wasn't really commenting on Atlantic Starr's album.
I am getting a new wave'n'b vibe from that soundtrack, Armed And Dangerous.

One more! ... "Preppie" Cheryl Lynn! It's a Toni Basil - "Mickey" sound-alike! It's from her "Preppie" album, 1983 Columbia/CBS that contains her big Jam & Lewis hit, "Encore." smile
