Or Thank You. Or We People Who Are Darker Than Blue. I'm afraid Fred didn't get the idea.
Edit: Beds Are Burning is an excellent opener to Midnight Oil's Diesel and Dust.

I should probably clarify my post as I don't think there is anyway to judge or measure "great-ness"
when it comes to art. I should say "Rocks Off" is one of my favorite album openers. I actually forgot
about "Start Me Up" and "Gimme Shelter"; and "Brown Sugar" is so cool! I just think the rollicking
nature of "Rocks Off" and the joy I experience from listening to it is moreso than the others you men-
tioned. If you want a exuberant album opener, The Stones are a great choice.

But excellent, excellent question, North.

I should add:

"Tired of Sex" by Weezer off of Pinkerton.

To me it's two things. One, Rocks Off wasn't a single so it's not as overly familiar. Two, it's the pace and tempo. Something about that song just rolls. I love it.

Yes!

To me - and the Gods made love isn't a song.. its an intro leading to the first 'Song'..

But technically you are correct! cool

duccichucka said:

Not fair! "And the Gods Made Love" actually starts off Electric Ladyland! I was going to add this
tune, but for the reason given, I did not.

"Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland)" has Hendrix's most convincing and soulful lead vocals,
in my opinion.

"You Give Good Love" - Whitney Houston

OMG! I didn't realize this song was the lead off of her eponymous album! Excellent fucking choice,
RJ. This song is so well written and I love Houston's vocal polyphony at the end.

yep...i was in love with the LP cover too...she had the natural short hair slicked back on the front, and that photo of her standing in the beach water, in her white one piece bathing suit, on the back...so sexy...she never ever looked (or sounded) that good again...
