Public Enemy

Hi

I was at the Stone Roses gig in Manchester last night, Public Enemy were the support, just after they came on Chuck D said they had lost allot of great artists this year, he then said they would like to play a tribute to Prince, they played about 30 seconds of Purple Rain intro on guitar and drums, the crowd gave a good cheer, was a nice touch, I wasn't expecting it.

Ha! Just like you ecnirp98 I went to see Public Enemy, but at the Indigo in the O2, London - a place where I and many of you guys witnessed such fantastic aftershows by the man back in 2007. Before they started the gig, they paid a sopken tribute to Prince and then their guitarist bathed in Purple light strummed the chords and played some of the solo of “Purple Rain”. Unexpected and appreciated in equal measure.

.

Respect to PE – still one of the fonkiest bands in the land.

.

Did like the tweet from Chuck D on Prince's passing...

.

"I'm a man of words - I'm kinda speechless on losing Prince, it's like the world is missing a note."

Yep, sounds like the same tribute they did at the Etihad, playing the intro and guitar solo, was a good reception from about 30-40,000 fans in the stadium at the time.

Public Enemy were great, was looking forward to seeing them as much as the Roses (John Squire was awesome on guitar, very Prince like playing, jamming away on fools gold/resurretion etc). I last saw PE at the Manchester Apollo in 1988 with RUN DMC.

Was a great night, first gig i'd seen since Prince passed, really hit me when PE did the tribute, Christ, I'm never gonna see a Prince gig again. I was lucky and seen most of the UK tours since Parade 86, but its weird there will be no more.

I'm sure I posted this originally in the Prince Music thread, must have been moved? odd, I thought it was relevant to hear allot of non Prince fans appreciating him and his music.....

Chuck will be at the GOP convention causing plenty of ruckus. Expect fun for all. I'm sure Jello will be there too. Expect massive pig cops.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
