Frank Black kicked my ass!

So I saw Frank Black and the Catholics at the Quest in Mpls tonight. Let me start by saying, the Pixies are one of my favoritest bands in the world, ever. I saw them play in 92 when they opened for U2 on the Zoo TV tour, but I had nosebleed seats. And that's the only time I ever saw him play. Sadly, he's played Mpls about a gagillion times since then, and for whatever reason, I never got to go.

Wow. He started the set with the Pixies classic, Gouge Away. I was about 3 people away from the stage. The crowd's energy was amazing! I'm not a super duper big fan of the stuff he's done since then, so I couldn't begin to give a setlist, but the show was fantastic. If he's playing your town, go. Through the course of the night he also did Monkey's Gone to Heaven, Crackity Jones, Where is my Mind and a couple other classics. I was in utter bliss.

It's sooo time for a Pixies reunion.

It's not gonna happen. I think him and Kim Deal haven't spoken too each other in years. I'm a big Pixies fan from back in the day. Saw them about four times here in L.A.Just amazing gigs. Imagine a couple thousand fans singing along to every word to their songs at the top of their lungs. Even meet franK Black.Real cool guy. Nice to see a fellow fan.woot!

Frank Black rocks. I saw him in Providence a few years ago and he was such a down to earth guy.

Glad you got to see him Carrie!

ugh, and i was already kicking myself for missing him at a seedy little dive (my favorite) down the road. gouge away??? i SUCK.

on a sorta-related note, i think that kim deal should visit me sometime. i know she got my letters, and she's just a little over an hour west on I-70...

i mean, he IS partially responsible for my mashed-up signature. the last album of his i really digged (and yeah, i think headache is a kick-ass song, oKAY?) was the cult of ray. ah, good times.

now i want to hear his new stuff but i'm afraid i'll like it, thereby increasing my annoyance at having missed him. sigh.

glad you had a good time though...and thanks for sharing it. the pixies are one of those bands that let you know a little something about a person...i mean, think about it, have you ever known a real asshole who liked the pixies? i never have.

Saw the Breeders last summer. Those girls kicked my ass too. Super fun show.

And now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever known anyone who likes the Pixies to be an asshole. biggrin

I saw him when he headlined Cedar Fest here in Minneapolis back when his "Teenager of the Year" album was out. But the thought of him coming out and opening with "Gouge Away" is blowing my mind!

It's been almost 9 years since I've seen him live during the TOTYear tour , the rock music mag/ critics used to kiss his ass during his Pixies days now almost completely ignore our Frank & there will never be a Pixies nor a Smiths reunion I think
