For the most part,I enjoy all of Chaka's solo work.I wasn't too crazy about I Feel For You and Destiny.These albums have that synth-heavy,commercial mid-80s sound and as a result,these albums haven't aged well.

I like IFFY sans Chinatown. Destiny I wasnt thrilled with since it sounded like a scritti polliti reject

I slept on Destiny because of comments like that, but I like that album too. Don't sleep on the Destiny B-side "Coltrane Dreams".

P.S. Scritti Politti is dope.

I personally prefer Chaka with Rufus (Sweet Thing, Tell Me Somethin' Good etc), but for her solo work, I'd gonna go for "Chaka" & "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me".

I also like this track, Chaka, Miki & Sananda (TAFKATTD) its on Miki's "Can't Count me Out" LP

With the exception of "Earth To Mickey", "Destiny" is a fantastic album! It was more Pop/Rock than any of her previous releases, which a lot of her fans took issue with. But, IMO, Chaka is a better Rock singer than Tina Turner. "Break Every Rule" was out that same year and other than a couple of songs, it was pretty weak to me. "Destiny" was the far superior album. Too bad WB didn't bother to build off of the success of IFFY. Besides "Tight Fit", there were no strong singles that would have fit at R&B radio. And there was little promo on the Pop/Rock radio formats.

Going a little off topic here, I find it strange when black female singers like Chaka, Tina and Donna Summer recorded Pop/Rock material in the 80s and 90's, the black community didn't support them (especially Tina). But, when Prince and Micheal recorded in the same genre, black music consumers never took issue with any of it and the songs were usually supported on black radio. I remember when Millie Jackson had a song out in the early 90's "Love Quake". She said black radio would not play it and BET refused to play the video because it was too Rock & Roll. And I was thinking they would have never rejected it if it were Prince or Micheal.

"Too Much Love" was filler??? One of the best songs on the album. Chaka blows it right out of the water! Amazing vocal. Really, IMO, the only filler song on that album is "Our Love Is In Danger". And even that is darn good filler. "Naughty" is another Chaka album that I can listen to all the way thru without hitting the "Skip" button. That's why I said you really can't go wrong with the Chaka Khan Album Series Box Set.

Oops! NGTYA is a fav of mine and I put it as a filler, my bad lol. My mom LOVED Too Much Love and played it to DEATH which is why I skip it. Thanks for getting me together KB!

i remember thinking the "I Feel For You" lp sounding like a bunch of throwaway songs from the "Beverly Hills Cops" soundtrack...back then, everybody wanted those David Frank (The System) beats...it looked good on them, but it always sounded so plastic when they produced for other artists, or other artists would mimic The System's sound...David Frank was a genius though...This Is My Night and I Feel For U, were solid joints on that album, but the rest was blahblahblah...

I agree.That album has a "cold",electronic,synth-heavy sound that you heard on so many records back in those days.I like to hear Chaka in a more soulful setting.It's obvious that I Feel For You was designed to be a big,commercial album and it succeeded.I must say that,I love the song "Through The Fire".Chaka shines on that tune.
