Capitol Records Soul & R&B Questions 1978-1982

Hi! Just wondering if anyone remembers the old Soul/R&B 45's on Capitol, say, from 1978-1982 (such as Donna Washington, Natalie Cole, Peabo Bryson, Mystic Merlin, Sun, etc...My questions are:

1. Was it intended for the Soul/R&B 45's/LP's to be on a red label? After '82, ALL of the 45's were on a purple label and in '83, a black label. The red label, done away with.

2. On Capitol albums in general, what did the prefixes of the album catalog #'s mean?

e.g. Natalie Cole's "I Love You So," 1979 LP (SOO-11928)

A Taste Of Honey's "Another Taste," 1979 LP (SOO-11951)

Anne Murray's "New Kind Of Feeling," 1979 LP (SW11849)

Catalog # prefixes on Capitol albums included: ST, SW, SWBK and SN. "SN" usually pertained to reissued titles and were on a dark green Capitol label (Minnie Riperton's "Stay In Love" Maybe they didn't mean ANYTHING? :-O

Thanks! smile <3

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman
