His induction into the RRHOF has been ruined by all of these ugly comments, accusations, finger-pointing and insults.

There isn't that much of a difference in Steve and previous inductions involving The Beatles, Van Halen, Guns & Roses, etc. in which there was feuding and some members didn't show up. Paul McCartney & Axl Rose sent letters telling why they wouldn't be involved. Ozzy Osbourne wrote a note saying he didn't want to be inducted, but yet years later when Black Sabbath did get inducted he changed his mind I guess and Ozzy showed up.

.

Peter Cetera didn't show up this year for Chicago's induction. According to Robert Lamm, Peter wanted to change the key to a song and that would have been too much trouble for a one time appearance. Peter Cetera said his suggestions were either rejected by the producers of the show or the group. Who knows? lol But there was Peter getting upset months ago about being announced as going to appear.

It continues.

Steve Miller has spoken out since his harsh words the night of the induction, mentions the Black Keys lack of knowledge on all things Steve Miller, and reveals who he wanted him to induct him.

(X)

In his first interview since his tumultuous entry into the...ll of Fame, Steve Miller explained exactly why he was so angry after his induction. "I think you should have a say in who’s going to induct you," Miller told the San Diego Tribune. "The guys who inducted me are nice guys, but they didn't know a thing about me. I was going to ask Elton [John]. He knows me and probably knows my music better than most people."

According to Miller, the Hall of Fame shot down the request. "They said: 'We'll pick who inducts you, and it will be a surprise,'" he says. "'Oh, and here are all these things you have to sign off on for licensing.' I was like: 'What are you talking about? You guys need to calm down.'" (Dan Auerebach told Rolling Stone that he regrets agreeing to induct Miller.)

Miller was so irritated that he nearly pulled out of the show. "The day before, I was going back and forth, even though my band had flown in and we had some of our gear there and were ready," Miller said. "I felt like: 'I don't know if I want to do this.' The way everybody was treated [at the inductions] was just terrible. If I'd talked to Dr. Dre a day earlier, and learned what N.W.A was going through, I probably would have [bailed too]."

Miller is the only performer from the evening that has yet to sign a release contract that will allow HBO to broadcast his portion of the show. "I spent part of today talking to my lawyer, and we're still negotiating," he said. It's as bad as any contract I've seen in 50 years … Everything [in the contract] is hard to understand and murky, and they have all theses rights and the artists don't have any, and you have to indemnify them. I don't do contracts like that."

He was also unhappy with the way organizers treated him at the Brooklyn ceremony. "I didn't see [the board members] interact with any artists, at all, at the inductions," Miller said. "We were dumped in little holding pens, and told: 'OK, get out there sit at your table.' "OK, now get up and give your speech.' 'OK, now play your three songs.' 'OK, now give us your guitar and get out of here.' There wasn't anyone that made you feel good about being there, except the fans."

Were he in charge, things would be quite different. "My suggestion," Miller said, "is to take the existing Rock Hall founders and nominating committee, give them all a plaque in the museum and then replace every one of them and start over."

Black Keys' Dan Auerbach says the band regrets inducting Steve Miller into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and were "disappointed" in him.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Isn't that saying something?? Don't blame Steve Miller for speaking up.

Really I am not so sure that is HONEST about not being able to PICK who inducts you, Outkast and Alicia Keys inducting Prince, that didn't seem like a behind closed doors decision to make PRINCE happy?

I understand that people would like Steve to be gracious and humble at a black tie event in his honor. But given all he's had to say, I'm not going to be the one to stand up to him and say "just sit there and take it, Mr. Rock Star."

.

And that Black Keys guy just made me lose any respect I ever had for him. What a kiss-ass teacher's pet! He could have said "My experience with the music industry has been positive, maybe we're headed in a better direction..." but he didn't. Instead he gets all "don't you know who I am?" And asking "how many women are in the Steve Miller Band?" after Steve's remark about it being a Boys Club... a band is not the same thing as an institution.

.

Now we all know who he is. He's the suckup with his nose up Jann Wenner's asshole that had the gall to insult Steve Miller after appearing on TV to praise him. What a hypocrite.

I never understood why Outkast and Alicia Keys inducted Prince. As far as I knew, he'd never met any of of them (although Keys covered "How Come You Don't Call Me Any More?"). I sure do think Keys's speech was great, though.

IIRC, Bruce Springsteen inducted Bono and that made a ton of sense. There's no way I'd think the RRHOF picked Bruce for that. It had to be a request from either Bono or the Boss.

I'm glad Steve Miller spoke up. Hopefully changes will be made after he voiced his criticisms. He may have gone overboard with his criticisms and the way he expressed it but he made some valid points. Much like the Oscars when there was criticism about the "all white" nominees. confused
"Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."
