Beyonce thinks she's MJ?

Hi! new poster here but i've been a long time lurker. I've seen multiple users on this site say that Beyonce copies MJ but I feel it's never really been discussed in depth. For example:

"Beyonce always cited MJ though (and believes she's him but that's another thread altogether haha)"

http://prince.org/msg/8/387456

"Well Beyonce thinks she is Michael Jackson so its not that far fetch she would think she could compete with Adele."

http://prince.org/msg/8/421688?jump=83&pg=3

and on other websites as well:

Why Beyonce's copying MJ?
Michael Jackson was a soul, R&B, rock singer who sang about love and break up and gangs... Untill post-Bad era where he slowly started to adopt a political approach of his music. Since then, he dealed with themes like racism, violence and poverty, with new jack swing music being the genre he leaned toward after funk, R&B and soul.

It seems like I just described Beyonce's career, at least till now. Beyoncé was a soulful vocalist who sang soul and pop music, but then lately she's trying hard to deal with politics in a very unsubtle way. Wearing MJ jackets in big events, Beyoncé's CLEARLY copying MJ's career steps showing a sneezy thirst for that status he has reached.

http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=947742

The above poster was obviously bashed and dismissed as trolling, but I DEFINITLEY think there's a ring of truth to it. There's also a lot of other comments over the years in interviews made by her camp that subtly imply this as well but i'd love to get othes opinions! smile

FYI: this thread is not actually about MJ but about BEYONCE!!!!

I honestly think that Beyonce is obsessed with MJ/being mj. She (subtly) refrences him in SO MANY performances she's done.

I can't believe no one has really called her out on it in depth. It bugs me.

Yes, of course Beyoncé thinks she's like Michael Jackson. She wears his jackets in major football events, she's going political in her songs even if she reflects nothing of the real issues, she has so many Grammys, she's famous for her dancing and singing at the same time...

But she's going to be as irrelevant as a Damian Marley song.

She is not obsessed with "him" per se. She is obsessed with his influence, impact and legendary status. She believes in her mind that she has reached that which is why she makes subte references to Micahel but what she fails to realize is 1. she batshit crazy to believe that biggrin and 2. that type of level of success and fame comes with a price, a price Beyonce herself wouldn't want to experience herself. Beyonce is not the sharpest in the knife drawer so it doesn't surprise me she would think this lol Mjs success and level of fame doesn't come easy. Its not something that can be manufactured or given to you on a silver platter and EVEN if did come "easy" she doesn't have the receipts, classics, talent, influence, impact, originality, innovation to even be in the same conversation as MJ. She is no different than Kanye in terms of arrogance and narcissim she is just more implicit with how she projects it.

Mods must be on vacation? lol lol lol Its been 24 hours Im surprise this thread is still open razz

IDK. You're probably right, but I still say she's obsessed with him/his career specifically. I mean why not The Beatles, Elvis Presley, or Madonna? She/her camp seem fixated on recreating Michael's entire career. Right down to girls tyme/jackson 5 comparisons and calling Beyonce a "child prodigy".

I don't think this is a recent thing either. I personally think she was groomed since she was a little girl.

She is not obsessed with him specifically. She has never spoken on MJs personality or character. She seems to be chasing his legendary status/accomplishments. I think that is a more accurate assumption at least imo.

Beyonce is not a child prodigy. She is manufactured and industry made. When DC first auditioned to get signed, Matthew advocated for Beyonce as a solo act but record executives did not think she was talented enough as a solo act and recommended her to stay in the group. If she was all this talented, why didnt they sign her as a solo act. When Toni Braxton and her sisters auditioned for Bayface and La Reid as a group, they decided they wanted to only go with Toni and not the group because they believed she was a star.

The flaw in your logic though is that Michael was not signed as a solo act.

The flaw is in you misreading what I said.

Michael was not asked to be signed as a solo act. BOOM theres the difference. Joe wanted to sign them as a group thats the difference BUT Berry Gordy has said on more than one occasion that the reason why he signed the Jacksons is because of Michael's charisma and talent as a performer which won him over. Also its important to note, that Stevie was a teenager around that time on the label too and Gordy was not interested in any more young solo acts on the label. He wasn't that interested in the J5 until they auditioned for him.

I'm sorry guys I just don't see much of Michael in Beyonce's performances. There might be the slight tribute here and there but as I've stated before she's got Tina written all over her. And less so now. If I had to pinpoint it though I'd say the overall aura is Tina. The gum-poppin sassiness is strictly 2010's. The moves? Not Michael, but a harder (if you can imagine such a thing) version of what Janet used to do. The ideas? Everybody's.

You crazy as hell if you call her so called "dancing" anything close to what Janet did. How about we just not compare her to any past legends or icons, how about that? biggrin

That would be easy if her homages weren't so blatant. They just seem more blatant with some artists than with Michael to my mature, well-worn eyes.

To me most post-Janet artists have used her as a template. The uniform, chorus line effect was perfected by her and copied by many.

I can't believe someone thinks Beyonce's ass shaking, ghetto pop locking is anywhere NEAR Janet's intricate choreography....WTF?? I'm gonna stop commenting in this thread now because this thread needs to die a fast death!

Here and there!?! LMAO. She bites off him A LOT!

First there is the more obvious ones. Which would be homages:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob7vObnFUJc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyYnnUcgeMc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Hgh7sPDLM

Then there's the more subtle ones:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeiFF0gvqcc

(fast forward to 6:36)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0xL3RH3JOo

(clock the male background dancers towards the end of her performance vs mjs background dancers)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqG49Zp80-g

(fast forward to 3:39)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzeXoI5YthI

(2:48)

She also uses his stage productions a lot as well:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSb9SBiehL8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Didk4cGPh0

the entrances are the exact same.

and these are just the ones off the top of my head! Beyonce has said it herself, Michael is her number 1 "inspiration" and she's not lying lol. I think the fact that she's a woman makes it a lot easier for her to get away with it though.
