It is very overlooked by critics. Personally Ashes To Ashes is one of his best songs imo.

Wow, nice to see "Scary Monsters" on so many #1 spots! I'm going to wuss out, I can't possibly try to rank them... I think it'd blow my mind. Also, I haven't heard "Tonight", NLMD (I only know 2-3 seconds from the Best of Bowie DVD and it sounds so horribly 80s that I always skip...) or Tin Machine, so for me, he never really missed totally.

My top 5....1)Scary Monsters....2)Low....3)Earthling......4)Outside....5)Ziggy Stardust. Blackstar might replace one of these soon.

"Scary Monsters" is in my top ten... There are so many good albums. But I have a signed copy of this one (sentimental value).

Outside in your top 5? wow.. I don't think that one makes my top 10.

I don't have a ranking for artist's albums because what I listen to depends on my mood or occassion

but Blackstar will always be among my favorite Bowie-albums.

I luv the video for Lazarus, despite the sadness of events and Dollar Days reaches deep into me.

Still haven't figured out Girl Loves Me.

If you wonder why the new albums are placed so high - it's because I've just discovered I enjoy listening to them more than some of the oldies these days. "Heathen" is essentially more of the same as "Low" and "Heroes", just done in his post-Tin Machine era style.

lol lezama..Yeah I know many aren't into "Outside". That may have been the reason why I dug it. But I've been listening to "Blackstar" on repeat since last week. So it might replace "Outside".

I regard "Outside" one of the top 3 albums of the 1990's and regard it as one of his best albums...

Although i would consider myself a Bowie fan, i never really heard alot of his early stuff, i've got everything since Outside, Ziggy, Deram Anthology and Best of 69-74. so since last week i'm listening to everything chronologically, and i have to say the one that's kicking my arse is Scary Monsters, love it. i'm up to Never Let Me Down (which i really like) so my top 5 would be

Lodger

Heroes

Alladin Sane

Looking threw some interviews of Bowie and he hated "Tonight" and also "never let me down" felt he had lost his way, he did like "Lets Dance" but he didn't jump up and down about it, just said it was good. But he did say "loving the alien" was one of his best tracks I always loved that song, he felt the demo was the best version.

Our cable provider (AT&T) has a bunch of Bowie videos available on demand including Blackstar and Lazarus.

Here's my ranking of Bowie albums I did a couple years back. Obviously does not include "Blackstar" yet... don't know exactly where I would place it just yet. It may be Top 5.

On another note; Tin Machine II get's a bashing, but it's pretty good, too (imho)! (prepared for the revolt!). Shopping For Girls is a top Bowie track!

Absolutely incredible, incredible, INCREDIBLE album! In my top 5 Bowie albums. This past year has delivered to me 3 albums that have blown me away - Blackstar, Black Messiah, The Fun Rises, The Fun Sets.

It really annoys me that my fave artist is nowhere near the level of these albums currently, but is instead at an all-time low music quality wise.

Bowie left us the only way somebody like him can.

I did my annual chronological listening to the entire Bowie catalog...it seemed fitting with his passing. I have to say, I'm not sure I could pick a top ten, since it really depends on my mood! Bowie is an artist who had very few albums I could consider weak in any way. Tonight and Never Let Me Down are both mediocre...and they still had some great tunes (and, confession time, I thought the latter was great back in the day. It wasn't until years later that I came to realize how poorly it has aged). This listening marathon just bolstered my stance that most of his catalog holds up incredibly well.

Capping the whole thing off with Blackstar though...wow. This album is just freakin' SOLID. An incredible, well constructed musing on mortality. The title track alone would have sold me on the disc, but every song is just wonderful.

So, I'm not quite sure where I'd rank ★ on any kind of list. Only time will really be able to tell, with many repeated listens.

It's really hard for me as well. I do play it perhaps once a week but it's always an intense experience. I think it always will be.
