In what life is the Weekend a new artist?? And the only artist pretty much in this "american music" radio friendly pop stuff i could tolerate would be "Fifth Harmony" how are they not in there, Best new artist easily over half that list, but whatever cant get upset about a show I havent watched more than ten minutes of in almost 2 decades.

Serious question: What's so great about Fifth Harmony?

Better singers, live that is, this list is nothing but the same 10 songs they play on every station, but now on tv. This show should have been put away when Dick Clark died out of respect, its not like they improved since, its actually gone further down the hill, most don't watch it. I look at this show and say why have this show its basically the Billboard show, same 10 people, taylor, sam, ed, maroon, meghan, beiber etc.. not one sign of a rock band, and please dont say Maroon 5 and Fall out Boy, and when you cant find a rock band eliminate the category please, dont stretch it to Pop and include One Direction.

I haven't heard much from Fifth Harmony but honestly what I have heard from them didn't impress me. I can always try again but I went in the first time with my expectations high so I'm proceeding with caution for round 2.

As for the rest of what you're saying, you basically described every music award show outside of the Grammys. One show is as good as another with the same nominees/ winners, the same nominations, the same cookie-cutter "controversial" performances and the same manufactured hype, social media beefs and staged publicity stunts that have nothing to do with the music that we are told to tune in for.

What's even the significance of these shows now other than to get ratings and pad the accolades of the nominated acts? You'd think we'd be use to the current state of affairs by now but this shouldn't be something to get used too.

My Boy The Weeknd will win at least 2, he's definitely a contender for Best New Artist across the board...I guess we'll find out who's getting The Lifetime achievement award in a couple of weeks...

Exactly. I think the Weeknd had regional success in Canada at least two years(?) BEFORE his mainstream success in USA and the rest of Canada outside of his region.

Is that the Baby I'm Worth It group? I'll say the song is a little catchy but it sounds it's

on some Nicole Sherzinger(Pussycat Dolls)shit. Nothing earth shattering about it.

I've got to hear more to determine if they are anything more than another fly by night female

act.

Yeah, that's them. TBH, I just found out that's their song; for all I knew that could've been anybody singing.

And that therein lies the problem with Fifth Harmony: they're generic. And though "Worth It" is catchy, it's as paint-by-numbers as the average modern pop song. Also, that saxophone chorus has been done to death; from Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" in 2013 to Ariana and Iggy's "Problem" and Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" last year, that bit has become more than a cliche at this point.

I won't say that these girls aren't talented but whatever skill they have isn't reflecting in the music they make.

The sad thing is they may never be given a chance to exhibit their full potential with how "instant" everything is now. Back in the day, artists were actually given time to bud and hone their craft within the industry over time, now that opportunity is very rare. Fifth Harmony may still have success but nothing noteworthy.

I read this lil article about how Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato's management was sold to RocNation in a hush hush deal and thats why these two "talents" are everywhere. You can thank Jay-Z for those underwear photos, "Jealous", and whatever Demi Lovato does. I think he should partner with Disney next.

These are not artists they are mannequins. The whole lot of talent listed right hurr, and that "saxophone" are the problem with "music" vs art.

I hate to say it, but on their purely fun level, I enjoyed Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and The Weekend the most this year. Everytime I check to see who was the artist playing on the radio that i was digging, it was one of thses cats.
