Independent Musicians Find Unexpected Rewards in Streaming

Early last year, Perrin Lamb, a singer-songwriter in Nashville who is not signed to a record label, started to receive all kinds of strange Twitter messages. Fans he never knew he had, writing sometimes in languages he couldn’t understand, were saying that they loved his song “Everyone’s Got Something” on Spotify.

Mr. Lamb — who did not use Spotify — quickly learned that “Everyone’s Got Something” was on a popular playlist on the service, and racking up streams by the million. By the end of the year, the song had been listened to some 10 million times, earning Mr. Lamb more than $40,000.

As I've mentioned here upteem times, artist need to run away from those plantation music contracts. Why are these guys and gals racking in more money than recorded label artist ? Because upteem people aren't dividing up their money from the music artist an bands create. Its unfortunate the some folks such as Prince, Jay -Z, Maddonna, the Jackson clan, The Stones, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, couldn't have grabbed CD Baby a decade ago and build upon artist owning a Label / Distributor/ Internet company. If they had... the significant % of the money generated by the artist would go back artist / songwriters. Not to speak of for once owning their music, masters recordings, and publishing rights.


Musicians are just as much to blame for them for the predicament, they find themselves in. Unlike the movie biz... the top actors and actresses back in the day fought to make sure all boats rosed. That's why they organized....
