Is Gallant the Second Coming of Maxwell?

With an emotive, falsetto croon most closely reminiscent of Maxwell, 23-year-old R&B artist Gallant (full name: Christopher Gallant) is destined for a major breakthrough sooner than later. Having studied music at NYU before launching his professional career, Gallant’s unique style initially clashed with industry standards, and he was told that his sound was not sufficiently marketable. Since that time, Gallant has gained some considerable exposure, most notably with revered tastemaker Zane Lowe, who debuted and championed his song “Weight in Gold” on Apple Music.

Available to stream below, “Weight in Gold” and “Open Up” are the tracks that we feel best encapsulate his awesome hybrid of familiar soul and new, more adventurous sonic inspirations. Have a listen:

Huge fan of this dude. Jupiter Grayscale was the $H!+.

Love that track he did with Madeaux too.

Listen to the Brasstracks remix of "Weight In Gold" and the comparison makes sense.

I think he's a contemporary Maxwell.

Or The Weeknd with a better voice.

He's got competition from Midnight, though ( who's also just done a track with Madeaux....)
