Can't do 5 from each album but I'll do my favorite cut from each. Don't hold me to this list, on any given day there's no telling what I might say is the "best" song from any of these albums:

Stand- Sing A Simple Song

Greatest Hits- Thank You

Riot- Thank You Africa

Fresh- Thankful and Thoughtful

Small Talk- Can't Strain My Brain

I need to hear more from this guy, I really loved Dance to the Music, Stand, Fank falettin bemicelfagain and family affair. Plus I really dig If you want me to stay.

.

Any recommended compilations for a Sly newbie, I have to as well as I know he was a huge favourite of Prince and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I know MJ dug him too.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

You could of course buy the Greatest Hits album, but if you buy Stand, you'll also get the 15 minute instrumental funkblues of Sex Machine and if you buy Dance to the Music, you'll get a 12 minute jam of the title track. And Riot, well, that's just a trip. These three LPs are essential, I'd say.

Get the Sly And The Family Stone " The Collection" and get the albums called called " High On You" and The "Back On The Right Track" . These albums represent the influence of the band and why they are and were the influence of Prince, MJ, RHCP, EWF, Kool and the Gang, Ohio Players, Rick James, Rap Artists, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis , The Time, Graham Central Station, Janet Jackson, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Betty Davis and TOO Many more to mention!

Back On the Right Track? eek That's like saying, if you like Prince, get Ultimate P, and Planet Earth! Both are nice albums, but not the kind of thing you'd recommend to a beginner. confused

The album "High On You" is called by many critics as his most underated.
