New Edition Discography Thread

Today, I wanna do a discography thread devoted to New Edition (since Bobby Brown has an appreciation thread, I'll just focus on the other members), everyday I'll spotlight a different album by either NE or the individual guys (Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv DeVoe or Ricky Bell) and you guys give your opinion on that particular album and the songs. I'll start it off with the album that kicked it off for NE, which is.........................

This was a great headline album.

Not only were the singles good, but the album tracks pretty much followed the same sound. Should Have and especially Gimme Your Love are catchy and cute. Maurice Starr and Michael Jonzun on vocoder on many of the tracks. The 12" of Candy Girl is very interesting where the boys ask them to play a guitar solo. I dont believe the otehr tracks had extended versions or b-sides other than instrumental takes.

I believe She Gives Me A Bang, Candy Girl and Popcorn Love have instrumentals. New Edition said after the tour they were able to buy scooters but were left with $1.77 as payment after their fees etc were done. They basically worked for nothing and soon left Maurice Starr...which was good because they did even better on their next album...which I hope you will discuss later.

The only track I didnt get into was Ooh Baby...meh. Could have been left off the album but probably would not have been long enough without it.

Great thread!!

An Obvious classic. The second album was packed with career defining tunes. Cool It Now and Mr Telephone man still getting played to this day.

B sides included Good Boys and Goldmine. Cool It Now has a dub version. Mr Telephone Man has an extended mix. As well did Kinda Girls We Like..which I'm not sure made it big in the charts.

This album also has 3 remakes including Mr Telephone Man, Hide and Seek, and Delicious.

Lil Bow Wow samples "Im Leaving You Again" written by Ralph and Rickey on one of his hit singles featuring Ciara.

Lost In Love 7" also has a new mix that has some extra vocals and new drums.

I don't know what the difference between the pressings is, resulting in different covers. I'm assuming one was for Streetwise, and one an MCA or major label reissue, or something.

All I know is it messed up my Triple Threat. mad
