There is no such thing as the "best" of anything. lol It's all asubjective matter of opinion.

Good point. But someone trained in music composition, theory, and criticism could offer up an
intelligent and cogent opinion as to why one piece, or, in this case, music producer, ought to be
considered better or worse than another.

But good point, Purple.

So many great hits...

Mutt Lange had a lot of hits too with Def Leppard, Billy Ocean, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, AC/DC, The Cars, Foreigner, Maroon 5, etc. Then there's Jay Graydon who was popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s with the Westcoast sound. David Foster produced or collaborated with a lot of popular acts too. Then there's Arif Mardin, Quincy Jones, Creed Taylor, Don Davis, Bob Rock, John Hammond, Willie Mitchell, Teo Macero, Narada Michael Walden, Norman Whitfield, Smokey Robinson, Arthur Baker, Ted Templeman, & the Mizell Brothers.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Their run is very impressive. They could very well be the best of their era.

No doubt they were the most sought after producers during their run. Of course

LA and Face were second. As far as being the best ever it's definitely subjective and

I don't care to read through a list of producers that I don't know or

care to know.

How about Rick Rubin? Someone who can produce artists as diverse as Run DMC, Slayer, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash deserves to be on this list!

I think the writer of the article shares your point of view. confused This reminds me of the "best" list R.S. magazine does from time to time. Folks making clueless assumptions... their time of reference is somewhere between 5 years of age and middle-age. Myopic.
