Showing some love for Esther Philips

Currently listening to her...

Some deep voice, nice melodies, good harmonies and great horns.

What are according to you, new artists who could suit my taste knowing I love funk, jazz, smooth songs,

I'm not into rock n roll that much.

So, what is the set of various artists playing in your media ?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Wow - now you're talkin'! I LOVE Ester Phillips and have always thought I was the only one who might appreciate her. It is great to know at leat two fellow Orgers know of her and like her too! She was incredibly talented and unique. It is too bad she died so young and in such poor health; what a life she must have had! I bet a bio would be a great read or a movie could be made. In fact, there was a contestant on the most recent "The Voice" (NBC) that sounded a bit like her - and I even thought, "Wow, she'd be a perfect candidate to play Esther Phillips!" Of course, she got voted off (and so I was pissed enough to not bother watching the rest of the season of the show), but her name is Kimberly Nichole. Here is a link to some youtube performances:

'House of the Rising Sun' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSRa6F4lhHM

'Something's Got a Hold on Me' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHM-QaqXV4o

Check Kimberly Nichole out, but more importantly - keep checking out Esther Phillips!

biggrin cool biggrin cool biggrin cool biggrin cool biggrin cool

Great voice, nice figure and good looking.

Too bad she's been voted off.

I never watch tv; therefore I lack new opportunities to know today's music better.

Do I miss something ? lol

"Home Is Where the Hatred Is" is a stunning stand-out! 'Makes you believe the song was written by/for her exclusively -- she's lived it, and like all of her songs, she makes you feel it! "I Can Stand a Little Rain" is one of my favorites with (the other) Beck, referring to the 'What a Difference a Day Makes' release; I have the actual record.

A MAZING!!!!!
