"Escapade" works my nerves...it's her "Cherish."

"Twenty Foreplay" rules...i'm sure you agree biggrin

I remember the furor that only one song from Janet. was included. For whatever reason, i still think it worked perfectly with all Control and RN stuff plus the one hint of "janet." (that's the way love goes) of where her music would go. Yes, "Again" and "If" (and Anytime Anyplace) should all be on here, but what would they replace? Every single was so essential and it's so impressive as a set when you consider the majority of the classic singles are from 2 albums...i don't know why, it just works for me

i dont see why it has to be a joke thread, theres not much bickering and'stanning' that can go on in a greatest hits topic, the sole purpose of a greatest hits is the hit singles.you cant deny design of a decade had actual hits, including the new song.of course everybody dont think its the best of all time but nobody cant say its not a real greatest hits album.

Zapp's Best Of or Disc 1 of History, or "Ultimate" Prince all come close.

"something to remember" of course ties DOAD for number 1.

It plays very nicely as the sequence jumps between eras. For some reason I was thinking it was "Runaway" you wanted to remove when I countered with "Twenty Foreplay" (even though we were typing "Escapade"... don't worry I went for lunch break).

or of course disc 2 of 'the hits/bsides'

there was also a time i was obsessed with Whintey's way of doing that 2 disc cool down/throw down (or, i guess Clive's way of doing it) - but now when i listen, i long for the european edition that has the actual original versions of the uptempos. anyone else have that?

I don't have that edition, but I know what you mean. I would love to have the original versions of the uptempos. Really, only the Cool Down disc works for me.

What's funny too - i have the 18 track edition of D.O.A.D. - it has 2 extra songs that fit here, which both suck (Whoops now & Best things in life are free) - so you could have EASILY plugged in "If" and "Again" (though "Anytime Anyplace" MURDERS "Again")...

Greedy ass Virgin! Wanted people to still buy 'janet.' when it was over 2 years old though (strategy paid off, though).

Well, it was an A&M compilation, and she had just jumped ship. I'm more surprised they got the new tracks!

Hey, we all know Janet's "band" was two guys from The Time, so don't get too self-righteous.

Really? I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE how it opens with BJ and goes into TWYMMF. The Girl is Mine is the only garbage in the bunch.

Number Ones is better than Design of a Decade, even with the decent Anytime, Anyplace remix in place of the too long for a compilation original.

No VIRGIN was a Capitol/EMI brand, which is now under Universal Music Group. All of her catalog is under UMG now. Not sure where this new project is landing.

Design of a decade the UK Version had a limited bonus disc and a better cover.

Design of a Decade has the best visual package, that's for sure. Especially European and Japanese edition. The booklet looks amazing. I'm huge Janet fan, she's my favorite artist, but DOAD is basically two albums. It misses Diamonds, Again, If, Any Time Any Place... And she had many amazing hits after that: Got Til It's Gone, Together Again (her best selling single), I Get Lonely, Go Deep, All For You, Someone To Call My Lover, Doesn't Really Matter...

So, to me, this wins. razz

I'd say with the exception of 'Rescue me' - 'The Immaculate Collection' is near enough perfect.

Although it's a shame there was no room for 'angel' , 'true blue' , who's that girl' and 'causing a commotion' - I know where was 'The Holiday Collection LP - but still.

Bob Marley's 'Legend' is iconic too.

WHAT!?!?! How can you hate ESCAPADE? That is my JAM. It's such an up beat feel good song. That song is the epitome of nostalgia for me. When I hear it I feel like I'm 10 all over again.

I remember being mad as hell when I found out none of Janet's hits from the Janet. album were going to be included on the greatest hits package. I mean by that time TTWLG had become Janet's biggest hit. So how the hell can you leave it off the greatest hit package?
