We're going all time, are we?

James Brown's Star Time and Motown's Every Great Hit of Marvin Gaye are hard to top. I love me some Janet, but her hits cannot hold a candle to these two, among many other trailblazing small-p pop artists.

Not to mention the jazz greats: Thelonious Monk's Genius of Modern Music collection is simply in another universe. That's just one example.

We could go back further.

Perspective is key in any "all time" discussion. Janet's collection is a jewel, but so many others shine brighter.

WHAT!?!?! How can you hate ESCAPADE? That is my JAM. It's such an up beat feel good song. That song is the epitome of nostalgia for me. When I hear it I feel like I'm 10 all over again. I remember being mad as hell when I found out none of Janet's hits from the Janet. album were going to be included on the greatest hits package. I mean by that time TTWLG had become Janet's biggest hit. So how the hell can you leave it off the greatest hit package?

Escapade was offered to Janet's late brother MJ...

ABBA Gold is the perfect pop album.

The Immaculate Collection is the perfect trash album. Whit few exceptions, the most songs on that album are pure crap. it sounds cheap. Like some easy listening music you hear in supermarkets. Madonna's later work was much, much better. Especially Ray of Light.

Janet offered Runawy and Scream to Michael when he asked her to write them a duet for HIStory.

I'm not sure about Escepade.

I like easy listening. There's nothing wrong with it. It's just as valid as any other music. I watch Lawrence Welk reruns on PBS sometimes.

escapade was never offered to mj. according to jimmy janet wanted a song that would be played at sporting events and things like that, and thats the track they came up with.jimmy jam shares alot about janet's albums and how the songs came about. janet didnt exactly offer runaway to mj, jimmy had her listen to some tracks they thought mj would like, janet picked scream and said thats the one she thinks mike would like, she said she hope he didnt like the runaway track because she wanted that one for herself. jimmy said he thought runaway would have fit for them as a duet, but mike did pick scream and janet told them...see i know my brother.

I think I mixed it up with "Runaway". Either way Janet is a lot like her brother, more than most know.

I would rather Janet pursue her acting career rather than muziq. She really has nothing more to prove in muziq.

Agreed about Michael Janet, they're like identical twins. Same person different genders.

But I disagree about the music. Is proving something the only reason to make music? Can't they just make good music because they love it?

I've actually always liked Janet Jackson a lot. She was my #3 favorite artist of all time at one point. I just rarely post on Janet threads because they usually devolve into nonsense arguments between stans and trolls.

Design of a Decade I feel is one of the worst greatest hits packages because Janet had five albums out at the time and the single-disc edition only covered two of them with only one song from a third hits-laden album due to licensing restrictions. The North American edition didn't even have the single edits on it so fans were buying the exact same versions of songs they already had on Control and Rhythm Nation 1814. The European double-disc release is a little better, but I'd be surprised if the North American CD sells any copies at all today anymore.

It's easier to sell trash, actually. Britney's "...Baby One More Time" sold better than any Madonna album.

No such thing as "trash". Just because you don't like it does not mean it's trash or crap. You can call an act or genre like easy listening "crap" or "elevator music", but if someone said that about Janet Jackson, you'd probably get mad. You're doing the same thing as the ones who put down Janet, so that's being a hypocrite to get upset about it.

I love "Rescue Me" - i don't get the hate.

Also those are 4 of her best singles u listed - though in fairness it pretty much got all the absolute monster hit tracks that were necessary (though "Everybody" "Physical Attraction" "Keep It Together" and "Dress You Up" in addition to th ones you name slay everything else on there).

My problem with IC isn't so much the songs chosen (Lets get real too - "Justify My Love" the video and single are the absolute SHIT - a career high point) - it's the remixes that are corny. They butchered "Into The Groove" by taking out the bridge and adding that bad remix - and the original Like A Prayer is heaps better. So is the original soulful "Express Yourself." And I've always hated "what are you LOOKIN AT" on "Vogue" - velveeta cheese

"Celebration" though it has its own problems was much better IMO (in fact so was "You Can Dance")

You know what kills me is when I hear the Immaculate Collection remix versions played on the radio. Those aren't even the single or radio versions!

Yes I agree...just as much as I like the live hi hats on Open Your Heart in which they excluded on the Immaculate Collection mad and they fade it out too early sad lol

Yes but I would guess nearly all 28 million copies of Baby one more time have not been played in over a decade or trashed.

.

Whereas The Immaculate collection would still get regular spins. Yes some flash in the pan acts can get some mega initial sales, but their momentum never lasts. Compare Madges sales since 2004 to Britneys post Toxic output and there is no contest. Shitney had here chance, but the Illuminati saw sense and went after Beyonce instead as the new princess of pop.
