naaa, Young MC takes the crown

1. take just one album and ignore the rest

2. even drop a few songs from said album

3. add awful cover artwork - DONE!

now THAT'S how you do a Greatest Hit package nod woot!

I'd say with the exception of 'Rescue me' - 'The Immaculate Collection' is near enough perfect.

Although it's a shame there was no room for 'angel' , 'true blue' , who's that girl' and 'causing a commotion' - I know where was 'The Holiday Collection LP - but still.

Bob Marley's 'Legend' is iconic too.

I love "Rescue Me" - i don't get the hate.

Also those are 4 of her best singles u listed - though in fairness it pretty much got all the absolute monster hit tracks that were necessary (though "Everybody" "Physical Attraction" "Keep It Together" and "Dress You Up" in addition to th ones you name slay everything else on there).

My problem with IC isn't so much the songs chosen (Lets get real too - "Justify My Love" the video and single are the absolute SHIT - a career high point) - it's the remixes that are corny. They butchered "Into The Groove" by taking out the bridge and adding that bad remix - and the original Like A Prayer is heaps better. So is the original soulful "Express Yourself." And I've always hated "what are you LOOKIN AT" on "Vogue" - velveeta cheese

"Celebration" though it has its own problems was much better IMO (in fact so was "You Can Dance")

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

You know what kills me is when I hear the Immaculate Collection remix versions played on the radio. Those aren't even the single or radio versions!

WHAT!?!?! How can you hate ESCAPADE? That is my JAM. It's such an up beat feel good song. That song is the epitome of nostalgia for me. When I hear it I feel like I'm 10 all over again. I remember being mad as hell when I found out none of Janet's hits from the Janet. album were going to be included on the greatest hits package. I mean by that time TTWLG had become Janet's biggest hit. So how the hell can you leave it off the greatest hit package?

ive always disliked the song and its even worse today because its still played at malls, restaurants, ect.i think it was a little too pop for me,its the most deliberate pop song on RN and ranks with 'someone to call my lover' as maybe her 2 most pop sounding singles. design of a decade was full of hits but is totally incomplete, i know she didnt have any real 'hits' from her first 2 albums but it would have been nice if they would have put maybe young love and dont stand another chance on there.i've been listening to those albums recently and they were not half bad,i actually enjoy them more than discipline.

But you need to make sure to get Ladies & Gentlemen...it doesn't have 'Feelin Good' but it DOES have "I WANT YOUR SEX!" The more recent 2 disc from 2008 CRIMINALLY omits IWYS. We can't have that shit.

It's funny you should say that because I was in Wal-mart today and guess what was playing... escapade. Lol! I didn't like STCML at first either, but it grew on me after I saw the video. "Say you do" and "Don't stand another chance are both gems from Janet's first two albums.

I Want Your Sex was originally on an Eddie Murphy soundtrack

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

No its the Immaculate Collection, all of Madonnas 80s classics and best 3 songs of the 90s on one package. I am on about my 5th copy of this album, the others died on me or got stolen.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Best 3 songs of the 90s? I love JML and really, really dig Rescue Me (i hope the rumors or her doing that one this time on tour are true) but have you HEARD "Deeper and Deeper," "Rain," "Secret," "Bedtime Story," or "Power of Goodbye"???

Heard, I own all her albums up to Hard Candy, MDNA and Rebel Heart I am waiting or the bargain bins. I like the albums Erotica and Bedtime stories, but these songs are bogged down in amongst the filler. I just 1990 was Madonnas best year after 1989 and Justify my Love and Vogue were her peak.

Don't get angry, but I think Madge had lost some of her punch.

.

I might change, an earlier thread bought me around to the brilliance of Bad Girl and the Erotica Album in general, but she still sounded better in the 80s. True Blue and Like A Prayer are the best, but Eroitica and Like a virgin are not far behind. Yes I absolutely Love Rain, Deeper and Deeper, Secret, Take a bOw, this used to be my playground and I'll remember as well. Still Justify my love is Madonna's best song ever, its nasty dirty, funky and has a real fuck you attitude.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Moving away from Madge.

Other Greatest Hits albums that are great include

Hits - Phil Collins, a lot of his 80s solo stuff and some of his best songs, another day in paradise and easy lover sit very well together, plus in the air tonight is here as well.

Turn it on again - Genesis, Enough of their Invisible Touch material and the better songs off earlier and better albums, the big let down is Home by the Sea is NOT on this album mad. But the soppier stuff sits well next to the zanier songs like the Peter Gabriel led Carpet Crawlers.

Abba - Gold, can not dispute this at all, classic songs

MJ - History Book 1, enough brilliance here, but you can get sick of it quickly.

Prince Ultimate - The Hits selection is decent and the remixes great, but a NPG records era Prince collection is needed badly.

Boney M - Gold, I know they are an acquired taste, but the first 10 songs are pure gold, the rest is less good, but honestly Boney M had 10 good songs only and they are all here.

Wings - Greatest Hits (The one with the angel on it) - Again the best moments of a mediocre group, which when placed together make them sound like a great group.

The Hits/Bsides - Prince, this WB collection is pretty flawless, it misses off some of the Batman tunes because of some copyright issues, otherwise the bases are covered, Prince's biggest hits, his best Bsides and some early gems and most of his best album tracks. The quality of this album is a lot better than we give it credit. After all it convinced me to buy his back catalogue, when I first became a fan.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - What Hits (The 1992 one in red, not the 2004 one with the lips, which is decent too). This epic album really got me into the Peppers earlier music after I had really got into Blood Sugar Sex Magik, some of their early funk bombs are here and the whole album has the party feel built in.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

really?? biggrin that song is good, but you truly think it's her best song ever?!

Madonna's best song was never released as an official single: "Drowned World/Substitute For Love"

but I guess this discussion is for another thread, lol.

I forgot about this one:

Not a bad song on there - although I prefer to have the original version of 'Wuthering Heights' and the cover makes her look older.

You are going to hate me, but I actually find Ray of Light boring and overrated, what is all the love for this album, its morose as hell and only Ray of Light and Frozen are any good. Music is a much better album than it.

.

But I will agree for 90s studio albums, Erotica is by far the best.

I think the sound on Number Ones and Madonna's Celebration is really great, and the tracklists are much better than previous Janet and Madonna greatest hits packages.

Side note - Justify My Love came on shuffle the other day, and while I knew Lenny co-wrote/produced the song (as well as Ingrid Chavez), I didn't realize it was him singing in the background. Seems so obvious now.
