You took the words out of my mouth. I'm sure there's an decent audience for this, but its not really what I'd spend any money on.

I'm not a Mariah fan, but I think it's a pretty good song. I like the hip hop flavored singing. The main problem with it is some of the screeching high notes especially the whistle one like at the end. Her voice isn't what it used to be and she can't really carry off the ultra high notes. She needs to stick to her lower and middle range.

I agree that she should leave the whistle notes and extreme high end out of her songs at this point in her career. It's clear at the end of the strong that she can't sing them the way she used to, so why include them?

Still a good song overall

I've loved Mariah since she first came onto the music scene, but this track is just meh. shrug It's very much in line with what's hot in R&B right now, but it's far below her own past singles. Plus I don't think it's going to appeal to those younger people listening to Chris Brown, Trey Songs, or August Alsina. She's just trying to be cute again, but she needs to grow up musically, or at least get back to her roots.

Mariah's roots are in R&B. This song is very Mariah and similiar to what she is been doing for awhile. I don't see it as her trying to be hot or appeal to a younger audience, but doing what she has always done. What does grow up musically mean? That seems ageist to me. That older people have to just do slow songs or can't like any type of contemporary music.

If anything, Mariah's problem is she always sticks to the same sound and it does get a little repetitive. She needs to change it up. I know she says she's against it ,but I would l like her to do a real dance/house/club anthem. That would be a little different but not too far outside of her comfort zone that it would sound ridiculous since she has done remixes in the past. Dance charts are more open to older artists. She should consider that.

Interesting. How about a Mariah jazz vocal album? That'd be a serious change. smile

I'm not a jazz fan, but that actually might work. I could see her doing a Billie Holiday type of sound.

After reading this thread, I can't tell if you're being sincere or sarcastic. But if you like it, I agree with you.

It's the same Mariah, makes me think it's a new song from the 90's.

I'm just now getting around to listening to this song. Just like most of the stuff she's done post - "Mimi" - completely forgettable. She's' better than this kind of drudge.

I've been longing for her to do a Jazz album ever since I heard her scatting on the remix for "Anytime You Need A Friend" in 1993. And then, of course, there's the amazing "The Wind" from 1992. If not a full length Jazz album, at least explore the genre more and include a tune here and there on her albums. But, I know it will probably never happen. At this point, I just have to accept the fact that Mariah isn't remotely interested in recording the kind of mature music that made her famous. Obviously, she's not concerned with sales. She just wants to do as she pleases. And when an artist has achieved what she has, they certainly have earned that right.

By the way, I heard on TMZ that she recently announced her best friend is a dolphin? Is this true? eek

Yeah those are the types of songs that gave her her international recognition. I'd love for her to do something as powerful as those.

The last time she followed that formula was a cover of "I Want To Know What Love Is" and it flopped very badly, and no one was trying to hear it, even on the org.

I would love a whole album from her like that. She has the ability to pull that off well and has here and there. The Wind being perhaps her best effort.

In terms of live performances, she definitely peaked in 1995/1996. These are the greatest performances I've ever heard from any vocalist (male or female) EVER. No one touches Mariah in her prime, not even Whitney (in my humble opinon of course). Be prepared to have your breath taken away eek:

TMZ posted an audio of the rehersals for her Vegas shows. Sounds like she's preparing to wipe up the floor with all of the people who said she couldn't sing live anymore. She was wailing and hitting those high notes. Hope the actual shows go as well as the rehersals seem to be. thumbs up!

I never thought it was a very good choice for her to cover. There are tons of other songs she could have chosen that would have challenged her more and required her to really test her vocal chops. I would love for her to cover a Minnie or Deniece song.
