Best Song Ever Sung & Written By One Artist--In Your Opinion What is the best song ever performed and written by one artist in your opinion? After many years of considering--Stevie Wonder's AS wins for me--hands down! This song has everything I could want--starts out as a life-affirming ballad with great lyrics and then moves on into a kind of spiritual ecstasy with a chorus that takes you to another place past space and time...and I can't stop dancing and feeling life at it's "fullingness." Thank you for a lifetime of music, Stevie. What are your choices for this category, orgers (not ogres)?
As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow (Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky) Did you know that true love asks for nothing Just as time knew to move on since the beginning As today I know I'm living (Until the day is night and night becomes the day) We all know sometimes life hates and troubles

I always thought that's the best cut off Songs In The Key of Life. Very well-written, that's Stevie at his absolute best.
He left no time to regret Kept his dick wet With his same old safe bet Me and my head high And my tears dry Get on without my guy You went back to what you knew So far removed from all that we went through And I tread a troubled track My odds are stacked I'll go back to black We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to... I go back to us I love you much It's not enough You love blow and I love puff And life is like a pipe And I'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to... We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to... Black, black, black, black, black, black, black, I go back to... I go back to... We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to... We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times You go back to her And I go back to black [Edited 2/20/15 4:23am]

I know I'm a huge sucker for Prince but come on, If I Was Your Girlfriend is haunting and Adore is timeless and made in 1987 when lame studio techniques were used. He didn't follow any trends back then. A loose canon on the music scene. Hard to choose, at least for me. By one man! Christ almighty.

. Mine is 'Jesus To A Child', by George Michael. So beautiful, written for his lover who passed away due to the consequences of AIDS. I like the poetry in the lyrics, and the vocal delivery by George on this. . Kindness in your eyes I guess you heard me cry You smiled at me like Jesus to a child . I'm blessed, I know Heaven sent and heaven stole You smiled at me like Jesus to a child . And what have I learned From all this pain I thought I'd never Feel the same About anyone Or anything again But now I know . When you find love When you know that it exists Then the lover that you miss Will come to you on those cold, cold nights When you find love When you know it holds such bliss Then the lover that you've kissed Will comfort you when there's no hope in sight . Sadness in my eyes No one guessed, and no one tried You smiled at me like Jesus to a child . Loveless and cold With your last breath you saved my soul You smiled at me like Jesus to a child . And what have I learned From all these tears? I've waited for you All these years Then just when it began You took your love away But I still say . When you find love When you know that it exists Then the lover that you miss Will come to you on those cold, cold nights When you find love When you know it holds such bliss Then the lover that you've kissed Will comfort you when there's no hope in sight . So the words you could not say I'll sing them for you And the love we would have made I'll make it for two For every single memory Has become a part of me You will always be my love . Well I've been loved So I know just what love is And the lover that I kissed Was always by my side Oh the lover I still miss Was Jesus to a child . I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

Michael Jackson They Don't Care About Us.
Powerful, evocative, controversial and ballsy.

A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, by Bob Dylan. Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son? Oh, where have you been, my darling young one? I’ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains I’ve walked and I’ve crawled on six crooked highways I’ve stepped in the middle of seven sad forests I’ve been out in front of a dozen dead oceans I’ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son? Oh, what did you see, my darling young one? I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin’ I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin’ I saw a white ladder all covered with water I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son? And what did you hear, my darling young one? I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’ Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin’ Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’ Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin’ Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son? Who did you meet, my darling young one? I met a young child beside a dead pony I met a white man who walked a black dog I met a young woman whose body was burning I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow I met one man who was wounded in love I met another man who was wounded with hatred And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall Oh, what’ll you do now, my blue-eyed son? Oh, what’ll you do now, my darling young one? I’m a-goin’ back out ’fore the rain starts a-fallin’ I’ll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest Where the people are many and their hands are all empty Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison Where the executioner’s face is always well hidden Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten Where black is the color, where none is the number And I’ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it Then I’ll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin’ But I’ll know my song well before I start singin’ And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard It’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall Read more: http://www.bobdylan.com/u...z3SOySnsnI "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

This is impossible to answer, so I'll just go along with the Sausage King here, because of all the songs mentioned here, Hard Rain is the one that got stuck in my head immediately. [Edited 2/23/15 5:23am]
