Favorite New Wave Artists/ Groups and Albums?

A fan of 80s music, new wave is no exception however I'm not as familiar with the genre as I am with some of the others of the time. Outside of singles, I'm not so knowledgeable about new wave so recommend me some good new wave albums and artists that define the genre.

A wide genre, and it depends on your influences, but for me, over a rough 5 year period, the ultimate albums are:

Gary Newman - The Pleasure Principle

OMD - Architecture and Morality

The Human League - Dare

Soft Cell - Non Stop Electric Caberet

Yazoo - Upstairs at Erics

Tears for Fears - The Hurting

Depeche Mode - Black Celebration

I know some of these are late 70s, but they're some of my favorite "new wave" bands and albums.

Devo-Are We Not Men?

The Cars-The Cars (self-titled album)

Talking Heads-Remain In Light

Kraftwerk-Computer World

Adam and The Ants-Kings Of The Wild Frontier

New Wave encompassed so many things : Post Punk, New Romantic, Ska, Art-Rock, Synth-Pop, etc.----I'm not sure what's definitive, but for what it's worth, these are my favorites:

Japan - Oil On Canvas

Talking Heads - Remain In Light

XTC - English Settlement

B-52's - Cosmic Thing

The Specials - The Specials

The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta

Defunkt - Thermonuclear Sweat

Joe Jackson - Look Sharp!

Squeeze - ArgyBargy

Adam Ant - Friend or Foe

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream

Gary Numan - Berserker

Big Country - The Crossing

Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party

Duran Duran - Duran Duran

Tears for Fears - Songs From the Big Chair

David Sylvian - Gone To Earth

Thomas Dolby - The Golden Age of Wireless

KajagooGoo - Islands

...

Funny that you should mention Islands, and not the Limahl-fronted White Feathers album, which is what most people first associate Kajagoogoo with. I find the Nick Beggs-led albums are very underrated, and unjustly so; after all, Beggs was always the band's driving force since back when they were called Art Nouveau. I also quite like Crazy People's Right To Speak.

LOVE "Spring Session M!!!" My only wish is that someone remaster and reissue the 3 Missing Persons CD's that make up their original discography! sad

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.
