Tony Toni Tone is great, but as far as 90s R&B groups/bands go, they are #2. Mint is #1.

If you know both groups entire discography like I do, then you know whats up.

Mint Condition touched various topics in their music (check Definition of A Band), could play almost any style of music (check the excellent From The Mint Factory), has a stronger lead singer (Stokley > Raphael), more longevity (8 albums and still going), and the list goes on.

Tony Toni Toni was more successful, but everything else: Mint > Tony Toni Tone.

To the person that said Mint was putting out "too many ballads"...well, thats what they are known for and that was their bread and butter. It worked for them, hence thier ballads are always what sold thier records. Why would they switch it up, and risk losing sales if ballads is whats doing it for them? Not to mention, thier ballads were always knock out punches. Breakin' My Heart went gold and went #1 on the R&B single sales charts, U Send Me Swingin' was the 10th biggest R&B single of 1994 and stayed on charts for months, What Kind Of Man Would I Be is another gold selling single and so on.

I can talk about Mint vs TTT for hours as I know the music of both bands inside out. And if you really know both groups, you would know that TTT is not better than MC.

Listen to songs like Fidelity, Missing, Runaway, Good For Your Heart, If You Love Me and tell me if Tony Toni Tone could ever make songs like that. I highly doubt it even thought TTT is really talented as well.

Yes, i like TTT more because they are more versatile

and all their stuff is funky

and I too have met Raphael (actually it was after his concert

at the Concord Pavillion),anyway he was waiting for food at this burger joint on

clayon valley road, and me and my friend were also waiting for our burgers

so we just started talking about what was going on in the news that day.

(it happened to be some very gruesome murders that he had not heard about it)

he was not stuck up at all...

True which is why I appreciated this album far more than their others but this album was far more Neo Soul and less New jack than the others in fact New Jack dominated the others. Songs like Thinking of You, Last Summer, and Loving You were a welcome departure from cornball songs like For The Love of You, Little Walter, Oakland Stroke, and If I Had No Loot. Mint had already completed their House of Music albums with From the Mint Factory and Definition Of A Band.

There is nothing gospelly about their rock influenced or jazz influenced numbers especially Living The Luxury Brown.
