Stevie Wonder--If It's Magic...

Just felt like listening to and sharing this lovely wistful song on such a gloomy rainy day... music

Stevie was on such a roll back then.

Two other favorites from that album: "I Am Singing" and "Saturn"
"Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

The first time I heard If It's Magic, I was visiting home for Christmas during college. I realized my parents were getting old, my brothers were getting old, my childhood pets were getting old. I was getting old (or do it felt!). Stevie's beautiful voice singing about the lifetime of the sun hot me like a freight train. Years and years later, the song still gives me the chills. I can't even hear it without getting choked up. That is POWERFUL music.

Songs In The Key Of Life is my all time favorite album since I was a kid. It has gotten me through many difficult times and always lifts me up just when I need it. The title says it all. And my dream came true a couple of weeks ago--I got to hear Stevie perform this entire album live!!! cloud9

and...unfortunately, as Stevie commented before he performed Pastime Paradise (a song much sampled and copied but never topped), the same social conditions he sang about so vividly in 1976 still exist in 2014... confused Thus, the need for this message on this beautiful life-affirming album even more today...

.

Pastime Paradise

.

Theyve been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They've been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They've been wasting most their time
Glorifying days long gone behind
They've been wasting most their days
In remembrance of ignorance oldest praise

Tell me who of them will come to be
How many of them are you and me
Dissipation
Of race relations
Consolation
Segregation
Dispensation
Isolation
Exploitation
Mutilation
Mutations
Miscreation
Confirmation to the evils of the world

They've been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise
They've been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise
They've been looking in their minds
For the day that sorrows gone from time
They keep telling of the day
When the savior of love will come to stay

Tell me who of them will come to be
How many of them are you and me
Proclamation
Of race relations
Consolation
Integration
Verification
Of revelations
Acclamation
World salvation
Vibrations
Stimulation
Confirmation to the peace of the world

They've been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They've been spending most their lives
Living in a pastime paradise
They've been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise
They've been spending most their lives
Living in a future paradise

We've been spending too much of our lives
Living in a pastime paradise
Let's start living our lives
Living for the future paradise
Praise to our lives
Living in the future paradise
Shame to anyones lives
Living in the pastime paradise

Okay, I outed myself as far as what my favorite all-time album is... I might as well state, what is for me, the absolute best song(s) on any album--the combo of As/Another Star. Truly perfect, in my eyes..and ears. cool love
