That review makes this show sound like a singular event not to be missed... Oh, how I wish I could be at there! 
(Hallo, Spaceboy... Are you watching Kate?)I was lucky enough to go last nght - as a casual fan of her hits the gig was pretty dull and boring - bit like your local amateur dramatic group
she plays nothing from her first four albums and I guess not surprisingly, having not performed for 35 odd years, she has little stage presence
then perhaps I am lucky as my 2014 gig frame of refernces are Prince and Janelle Monae
so glad I went, but I wouldn't go again, that said, hearing Running up that hill live was magical

Funny thing, if we look at the album top ten posted here, The Red Shoes and Aerial are at the bottom and she chooses those two for her live material! And Hounds of Love of course. But I like all those albums, so I guess I'll be fine. [Edited 8/27/14 1:23am] | |

I definitely see your point. As a casual fan, the setlist has a few songs I know but a lot of songs I don't. And it's missing some of my favorite tracks by her Wuthering Heights, This Woman's Work, Army Dreamers, Babooshka, Deeper Understanding. I understand a lot of artists get tired of singing the hits but this is only tour in 35 years and the only chance people will ever get to see her so I wonder why she didn't put in more of the better known tracks. Although I wonder is there any chance she will change the setlist from night to night? | |

I love Kate so I'm happy to see her back and being well-received, but I take the rave reviews which a pinch of salt. The tone of the reviews was decided long before she set foot on stage.

The public are missing some great stuff. I just reread a Mojo interview and Kate indeed is not very proud of Lionheart. She felt it was rushed. And yes, this is such a big hype that you have to wonder how true those rave reviews really are. And I never understood why some people think an artist on stage should be a human jukebox: I paid for the ticket, so you have to play what I want you to play! I guess the whole concept of the tour is to recreate musical suites thet are The Ninth Wave and A Sky of Honey. They're not a random collection of songs, they tell a story. And with this being such a big production with choreography and theatrics, I think the setlist will be pretty fixed. Having said all of that... The Man With the Child In His Eyes would be nice. | |

The opening night was phenomenal. The amount of work that went into the show beggars belief. To compare it to the sleepwalking banged-out cabaret I saw at The Roundhouse in June wouldn't even be funny. |

[Edited 8/26/14 23:36pm] Well, I've seen Prince on four separate occasions, including the much-acclaimed ONA tour, but last nights show at the Hammersmith blew any of my previous concert experiences out of the water. Seriously guys, the rave reviews are not just media hysteria and hyperbole. This show really is something quite special, more like an elaborate theatrical production than a pop concert. Kate is remarkable throughout and her voice is in top form. The whole Ninth Wave part of the show is utterly breathtaking. There really are no words.... It has to be seen to be believed. |

Damn, these photos give me a better look than I had yesterday! I was pretty high up in the balcony, looking down on everything. No need in repeating the setlist, just a few thoughts. Warning for everyone who still is going: Spoilers!!! The first part, when she came out (to a standing ovation) where she was just singing the songs, still could have seemed like any other old rockstar doing a comeback gig. Let's give a big shout-out to the band, who are almost forgotten in this spectacle! They were good! Especially the drummer. Kates voice was excellent. The second part was more theatre than concert. The photo you see of her in the life jacket appeared on the video screen for some songs. The photo in the living room is her appearing as a ghost to her family. Now I understand the ponit of Watching You Without Me. This whole show actually made me understand the whole concept of the Ninth Wave better. I never really gave much thought to the concept behind this, but it's much clearer now. There is a story in there about being lost, she just tells it in her own quirky way. This part was amazing, almost too much happening. The finale was beautiful, the band coming out with acoustic guitars for The Morning Fog. The the third part, A Sky of Honey, a bit more quiet, nice warm colours. Less spectacular, but that gave you the chance to listen to the music, which you could almost forget in such a big spectacle. All the songs were played pretty much as they are on record, so musically there were few surprises. But this was more than just a concert. Kate Bush is still in a legue of her own. And what a fantastic way to close the set, with Cloudbustig. | |
