The groovy, groovy sounds of PIZZICATO FIVE

I was fortunate to see them live once back in the 90s when they toured to support one of their U.S. releases on Matador Records. I've recently rediscovered them after finding all their Japanese albums online. The Maki Nomiya years (1991-2001) produced some amazing stuff. love

Twiggy Twiggy

Happy Sad

Superstar

On The Sunny Of Side Of The Street

Triste

Sweet Soul Revue

Baby Portable Rock

A Message Song

It's A Beautiful Day

La Régle Du Jeu

Playboy Playgirl

Week-End

I Hear A Symphony

.

I count 'La Regle Du Jeu' and 'Sweet Soul Revue' among my favourites. Bumped the hell out of those songs a couple years back.

Listening to all the albums consecutively, Playboy & Playgirl is my favorite with Bossa Nova 2001 a close second.

I love 'Twiggt Twiggy', and have to hear more of their songs.

BTW, are they still around as a group?

No they broke up around 2001. Nomiya Maki released some solo records. Konishi went on producing a number of acts.

I like the Couples album and the Pizzicatomania compilation of early singles isn't bad either. But Maki Nomiya's voice became such a signature for them to me that the other albums with the male singer don't sound right in retrospect.
