Timbaland: Missy Elliott's New Album Is a 'Game Changer'

''It’s been nearly a decade since Missy Elliott released her last album, but her longtime collaborator Timbaland promises it will be worth the wait.

“It’s coming,” the super-producer told Rolling Stone of the follow-up to 2005′s The Cookbook. “It’s on her. She got thefirst single, it’s just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the game changer right there.”

While no release date has been set, he said to expect big things. “It’s something you ain’t never heard Missy do. It sounds today, but the future.”

In an interview with Yahoo!’s “The Yo Show,” earlier this year, Missy explained the reason for the delay. “When I create something, it’s gotta be special and it can’t just be to throw something out there because I feel like I’m Missy,” said the “Work It” rapper. “I gotta feel like what I’m giving the fans is 100 percent and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records.”

In September 2012, Missy released two Timbaland-produced songs, “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat,” off her tentatively-titled album Block Party.

She has also appeared on singles for Little Mix (“How Ya Doin’?”), Fantasia (“Without Me”), and most recently, Faith Evans (“I Deserve It”).

Meanwhile, Timbaland is hard at work on his solo album Opera Noir, which he calls his Purple Rain. “I have no features on it,” he said. “It’s all about truth and what’s going on around us.”

Never hear of these songs...

-

First song is entitled "9th Inning" and it's followed by "Triple Threat"...

I like Missy and all, but all this talk is tiring. You're never going to find the perfect time, and the perfect collection of songs. Just put together the tracks that mean the most to you and let the world decide what's "game changing" and what's not.

And to Timbalands "his Purple Rain" comment...

Change it one more time..

I agree.I think some artists spend way too much time trying to make the "perfect" album.I'm not saying that they should rush the project, but dayum....it shouldn't take several years to put together a great 13-track album.

I would say it is almost impossible to live up to this kind of hype though. On the other hand, it sounds like Missy has really been waiting and waiting and waiting for the right records. There is absolutely no way she can sell close to what she sold in 2005 due to the industry, so it will look like a "flop" follow-up. Missy also became known for ground-breaking video clips, so maybe this is why timing has been important for her.

I wish I could get a copy of that vinyl they're spinning on this.

I liked those tunes! I really thought the album was around the corner when that dropped.

Two types of HYPE in this article, One the oh so popular and oh so boring statement, "this album is a game changer" first i hate that fucking stupid ass term, and second what GAME are you changing? the business is fucking dead. And second Tim's plug for his album "this is my Purple Rain" nice timing with that comment since its a 30th anniversary, etc... but how about create your own Epic stop latching on to others, Tired of hearing "the new thriller" "the new purple rain" "the new Like a prayer" how about create your own stuff.

I skipped over those lines. What about the lines..

I just like the general confidence of it. We know that the first single is what they've been searching for. It promises a song they are proud of (assuming they both worked on it).
