Midyear report: Your favorite 2014 NEW releases

My top ten so far:

1. Dum Dum Girls – Too True

2. September Girls – Cursing The Sea

3. The Horrors - Luminous

4. Jack White - Lazaretto

5. St. Vincent – St. Vincent

6. Haunted Hearts – Initiation

7. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings – Give The People What They Want

8. First Aid Kit – Stay Gold

9. Lana Del Rey – Ultraviolence

10. tUnE-yArDs – Nikki Nack

Please post your faves. I obviously mean new albums and not reissues of old ones. (I've learned in the past I have to spell this out. confused ) And smart alecks posting "none" don't bother.

.

Haven't listened to a whole lot of albums, and to my shame I've mostly kept to mainstream channels yet again, but there's a couple I really enjoyed so far.

.

There's Indila's Mini-World, which I bumped a lot over the course of this spring.

.

Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour is great.

.

If EP's count, I really enjoyed Mýa's 2 releases this year, With Love and Sweet XVI.

.

Dutch band Chef'Special had a pretty strong album with Passing Through.

.

The Do It Again EP, collaborative project of Robyn and Röyksopp, was short but plenty sweet.

.

Haven't listened to much of anything else yet. :/ Speaking of EPs, I loved JoJo's Valentine's special #LoveJo, due in great part to JoJo's masterful vocals on it, but in smaller part also because of the crisp production by Da Internz. Prolly their best work yet.

.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

7) St Vincent - St Vincent

... haven't got ten yet, but I haven't listened to many new albums this year.

Not been a great year for albums so far IMO. TuneYards, Roots and Robyn/Royksopp were all kind of disappointing.

I like:

Jack White

St. Vincent

Withered Hands

Lilly Allen

Parquet Courts

Wussy

Hasn't been a decent hip hop album so far - we're really in need of someone to shake things up, and I don't mean Iggy Azaelea.

Hah, that "short" EP is longer than two of the LPs on my list.

I don't think I got more than 2 albums this year so far err

razz

Do it again - Robyn & Röyksopp (on repeat in the car, my eldest requests Monument all the time, but it's ok, even on a short car trip he gets to hear it)

Lighght - Kishi Bashi. K is such a cutie - and he's good at hugs.
I'm the mistake you wanna make

I haven't actually listened to the Jack White album yet (though I have it), but I had the St. Vincent, First Aid Kit, and Lana Del Ray albums on my travelling music for my going to the Rockies and back this past week. Big ups for St Vincent and First Aid Kit... still unsure about Lana Del Ray.

Ultraviolence, Turn Blue and Lazaretto are the only records that I bought. They're fairly great albums especially Lana Del Reys.

At least you only copied half of my top ten this year instead of the full list like you usually do. And that fifth pick you had to sneak in at #11 because you must have felt your top ten wasn't enough like mine on its own. rolleyes

There are only 11 because I was first-listening to Kitten's album as I was org browsing and figured it would probably land at #7 right before posting.... Our lists only overlap due to the profound, positive impact I've had on your life touched

If you will, so will I

Who makes a top 11 list? Nice try, but I'm not buying that excuse.

I wasn't the one taking notes on my smartphone every time a band was mentioned during our conversations the last time we hung out. rolleyes

I make a top 11 list! Next time we're ranking albums, I may do a top 12. I can send you a copy in advance so you can study up

Only thing I took notes on was Orphan Black, Fleetwood Mac's show, and A Town Called Malice. hmph!

If you will, so will I
