Janet a ROCK artist?.

Are they rock? Because they're in. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Waterloo alone is like 10000000 times more RnR than any Janet song (and please, enough with the Black Cat thing, that song was a pastiche)

There are many great artists who have never been inducted, but I feel like this: If I have to beg, plead, and petition the committee to induct one of my favorite artists, then screw it...it just ain't worth it.Why even care about this? I doubt that Janet is sitting at home, crying over this lol

The Fact that there are people in this thread questioning whether Janet Jackson is WORTHY to be inducted into The Rock'n Roll hall of Fame is Comical at best....The Jackson family is The First Family of American Music. The Jacksons are Iconic and Music Royalty. There is no argument or debate when you're talking about The Jackson family...Yes even with ALL their personal problems they are still The First Family...Janet will be inducted when she gets her 1st nomination....

She's just veered too much into that end of the music business that is completely removed from what rock'n'roll stands for. That's why I don't seriously consider someone like Mariah Carey to be "fit" for a "hall of fame" of this type either. Not that it really matters to me which artists get inducted as it's not important to me, but sure, on an intuitive level inducting Janet Jackson into the RNRHoF just feels awkward. Regardless the quality of her albums (which I think is rather high for her type of an artist) or the impact she's had on other R&B and pop artists.

Yeah, I like many of her albums (even the more recent ones) and I like watching her videos, but seriously, she just doesn't belong in the same group as the likes of Led Zeppelin and Velvet Underground. With people like Prince and even Donna Summer the connection's still there, but Janet Jackson is just too far removed from what rock'n'roll is about. It's all subjective of course, but in the end it's about how many people share the same subjective impressions.

You’re entitled to your subjective opinion on ‘black cat’ – but it was nominated for a Grammy in a rock category by a committee far more qualified that you to determine what genre that song is classified under. I’m not fan of ABBA but to my recollection I don’t think they achieved the same feat – neither did Donna Summer who was also inducted into the RNR hall of fame – deservedly so though I might add.

In regards to the video – I’m a huge Janet stan but most of these petitions are so cringe worthy – it’s embarrassing - Like the same old forum members who post trivial news on Janet or reminds people for the umpteenth time her achievements. We know she is amazing – If some people don’t get it then it’s their loss

I can't believe that some people still regard the Grammys as something worthy/prestigious...

the Grammys are the meat parade of the Billboard mainstream, then and now, always

the RnR hall of fame lost its way when it started to include non-RnR/Hard-Rock acts, then it became the Pop Hall of Fame, or the Legends of Music Hall of Fame

whatever

what's next? Mariah? Celine? Enya? Do you realize that Joan Jett IS NOT inducted? Janet first but then Joan (only God knows when?)

RIDICULOUS

Without Janet it would be no female superstars today that are equivalent to MJ. Janet headed that movement and deserves the recognition for it PERIOD!

Emoticons are pretty annoying.

Generally abused by people who don’t have anything worthy to write or add to a discussion – yet thinks so highly of their opinion.

Joe, my pessimistic and mind-numbingly negative friend– your post is a prime example of that.

Actually,Donna Summer actually won a Grammy in the Best Rock Vocal Performance category (female),for "Hot Stuff".In addition, she received two other nominations in that same category:

"Cold Love" in 1981

"Protection" in 1983

So,contrary to what alot of people think, she has rock credentials. Her 1980 album The Wanderer is almost entirely rock.

You were the one who brought it up, giving Madonna a pass by saying she's done synth-rock and shit. Bitch, please. If that gave Madonna a pass to get in then Janet surely deserves induction, for her Best Female Rock nomination ALONE.

This, times infinity. The big reason people are "begging and pleading", as someone put it, is because of the unjust, unfair politics that permeate the process. As I said, Jan Wenner is a big reason she's not in there to begin with. There are a lot of fogies/people stuck in their ways stinking up the committee. Thank God there is new blood in there to even out the playing field and give people who greatly deserve a nomination their just due.

Ok, well then you take a look at some of the NON-ROCK acts who are in there now, before Joan Jett, be subjective about them, and then you can tell me about what's "ridiculous." Until then, you're basically just talking out of your ass.

the Black Cat shit is the only thing you guys can hold on to...

anyway, as I've said, the R&R HoF should be renamed to Pop HoF or Legends HoF...

The Black Cat thing? You're reaching, dear. And if some do "hold on to" it, then it's with good reason. It was a bonafied Rock song from a primarily Pop/R&B artist that went on to become a Billboard #1 Hot 100 and #1 Mainstream Rock track, and it garnered Janet a Rock Female Vocal Grammy nom. It's also been covered by various rock bands over the years. What the fuck about Material Girl, Angel and Burnin' Up is rock? A couple of them may have rock guitars, but that doesn't mean shit. Janet has plenty of songs that fall into the not-rock-but-contains-rock-guitars category.

I stand corrected. Sorry I'm not too familiar with Summer's back catalogue.

Janet is underrated for sure but she is not getting inducted no time soon. While she deserves to get in, there are a ton of artists that deserve to get in before her that have been snubbed for years.
