yes modern music is shite......and being a purple hippie I suppose i am abit of a music snob...but arnt most of us? ......but maybe deep down its becuz P isnt in teh charts jk!.....but thats like most people around the world...we all think that "our" opinion and tastes matters most anyway....certainley when it cums 2 art-forms (music, film. books etc..)...because art is subjective..it all cums down 2 tastes...like everything

well havent we all gt abit of egotistical traits when it cums 2 things that are open 2 subejtive discussion or critism?......its just a hard question 2 answer.....I think in our own minds we all listen 2 better music becuz its are "own" ears that judge for us.....just as im sure a spice girls fan or snoop lion fan...think there taste is superior....so it works both ways.....and im not bothered about critics.........its my ears that have 2 listen 2 the cd's "I" enjoy......no 1 elses...and why would common sense cum in 2 it?......im not listening 2 satanic music or songs about killing people ......

I used to be that way honestly. Now i do me, and i let others do them. That's the best and most cliche i can explain this.

ALL of us have music that can be seen as ''guilty pleasure'' by why take guilt? Morrisey has wrote some absolutely shit songs, and some great ones.I just put that as an example since you have him in your pic the greatest artists you can think of have made a mistake or two. I can't act like everything they have done is perfect.

Liking ''quality'' music doesn't make you a better person at all. I know people who only listen to top 40, or poppy music. And there training to be doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, or biologists. There very smart people, make good money, and aren't at the club every weekend.

And i know some people who only listen to ''quality'' music who are bums, have no jobs, live off shitty income, and are lazy as fuck. And i know many who think they're ''too deep'' for anyone to get and so they don't make many friends. Oh, and they don't work cause no job is good enough

People who go crazy over the ''superior sound of vinyl'' listening to underground Fugazzi and Neurtal Milk Hotel bootleg b-sides, and having every Beatles and Zeppelin album on stero. Are usually the same types who ejaculate to Breaking Bad, orgasm to anything Morrisey has every whiped his ass with, quote Pulp Fiction on a daily basis, and think Radiohead combined with Arcade Fire invented sex organs and fire.

While there is no "better" music.

There certainly is formulaic music.

But I wouldn't say that its an "inferior" music, its just one manufactured with the intent on selling it as a product in a competitive market.

But thats the music business! so its moot.

Sure we can wax philosophical on why you like said music, which may have cultural or psychologically underpinnings. But I rather just listen to music than do that shit.

Yes , my friends know that i listen to Motown, Miles Davis, Jimi hendrix etc. And my best friend listens to this middle of the road todays pop music and i snub him everytime he asks me if i like some sub par song

Yes, yes and sort of.

I don't think something being "my favourite" means automatically it's better stuff than something else and that there are many very good bands that I just don't personally click with (a lot of indie rock, for example).

However, the problem with poor taste in music is that they're still rather enthusiastic about their favourites and it's hard not to feel that they're sort of "wasting their lives" being so into something that's not worth it.

No, I listen to music for pleasure. Sometimes I also listen to it for historic interest but only if it is also enjoyable to listen to. It doesnt mean a thing to me if other people also like it.

Whatever weird stuff I'm into, anybody who has children is getting exposed to deeper and weirder stuff than anything that's in my record collection, on the regular.
