I agree with Cinny´s ranking. But I listen to WWU much more often than New Amerykah pt.1

I think New Amerykah is more of an album than WWU (which is more like an EP) but I find both parts of New Amerykah a bit too sketchy and unfinished for my taste, even though I like it as well.

I couldn´t hum along to the songs on New Amerykah but I´ve basically memorized every single line and melody on WWU. But nothing comes close to Mama´s Gun. Still her best album.

"new amerykah part 1" is the only Badu album I don't own. I purchased it when it first came out and it was just too weird for me, dude. Most of the material was strange and some of the album artwork eek . Short of "Honey" and maybe a couple more tracks, nope, I just couldn't hang so I sold it for a few bucks. I don't know what she was going thru at that time but I'm glad she snapped out of it about time the next album came around.

Aww mannn, I love this album because of the weird nature of it. It sounds like a disjointed dream- sometimes a nightmarish look at America. I think it's her version of Funkadelic's America Eats Its Young.

im having a helluva damn time answering my own question...

Pt. 1 was much better. It made me think. It was thoughtful and eclectic, and funky. My People and Soldier however I skip everytime.

Pt.2 was okay but was unfocused and just floated right on by

still can't get over the wildly mixed NAPt1 - some folks swear by it, some can't get with it. I get it from both sides. WWU is the album that made me a fan; i had heard mama's gun and liked it but wasn't into her or anything, and baduizm (and "tyrone") it was like who is this bohemian chick, nah thanks.

WWU - first spin top to bottom - holy fuck this is my fave artist of all time.

So needless to say i went back and rediscovered baduizm and MG, MG slowly by default probably becoming my most played album of all time. it still owns my heart (MG) in many ways; today though it plays a little long for me, after knowing every song inside and out. WWU and NA are lean and mean!

Needless to say i was so interested in what my new favorite artist might do next (never knew WWU was an EP til much later; i think of it as an album). Then This Shit drops (NA PART 1) and it was kind of - what the fuck is this ? But once i got more acclamated; the replay value is insane; it is the most dense, layered, inscrutable, totally improved/tossed off yet meticulously labored over piece - minus the mix - but is that intentional? It almost sounds as if it were made to sound like "garage band" meets "grimy audio."

That Hump...The Healer...and especially ME...but, my people, twinkle...this thing is a monster.

HEADPHONES (and some herb if you indulge) are a must!

I take NAp1. I didn't connect with WWU when it came out and still really don't. I guess Mama's Gun was so brilliant WWU was a letdown. Don't get me wrong, WWU is still better than many modern R&B artists' best. But NAp1 was brilliant, and NAp2 as well.
