What is the Pop Ascension?

Hey, how's it going everybody? I'm a new user here and am happy to see the in depth discussion of music that takes place. Since joining, I've been strolling through various topics and I've seen the term "pop ascension" being used a lot. It seems to carry a negative connotation but what exactly is it and what effect did/ does it have on music? If someone could please explain that would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome MotownSubdivision. I'm also still kind of a newbie here, and I've not yet encountered the term 'pop ascension'. So I'm as curious as you are to learn what it means. Have fun at the ORG! biggrin

Because there's no such thing. The only person who talks about that is Scorp.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

LOL whatever, dude, whatever. But there we have it, not even Scorp could tell us what a "pop ascension" is supposed to be. Maybe it's the crazy ideas that pop up in his head, as it certainly isn't a real thing.

It appears to be a popping and locking competition.

quite to the contrary of the indifferent and cynical responses earlier in this thread

not on is the Pop Ascension a real entity but disguised itself in the veil of unbridaled commercial success as the greatset illusionary force in the history of music, an entity that introduced itself at the apex of the crossover phenomen of the early 80s and took control of the recording industry by the horns which when researched and traced, beginning in 1987.

The connotation is negative because the manner in which it function was such because as I've witnessed over the past 27 years, it has exploited the virtue of authenticity while at the same time obliterating culture, leaving it in shreds, particularly black culture, especially in the realm of music; stripping it of its foundation, leaving it strikingly bare

the distinction of Pop Ascension is never spoken of or hasn't been "coined" because it's not meant to be exploited, but to explain what happen to our music and why its' running on fumes as we speak

this only serves as the introduction
