Opinions On Slipknot?

When i was in middle school circa 03/04 Slipknot were fucking huge. They may not have had ''top 40 pop hits'' but they were all over rock radio. There shirts were worn by so many kids at that time. And there albums were huge in the rock circles to. They were even at the grammy awards lol A lot of their fans were hella annoying at the time. They acted like they were the scariest, most dangerous band the world had ever seen.

Now after years and years of disliking the band. I have revisited some of their stuff. Lyrically their not that great and never were. It's either ''i hate life songs'' songs about broken relationships, or songs about wanting to shut out pain from your life. Instrumentally i don't think their amazing, but they get the job done. Jory Jordison is a pretty damn good drummer though. He's also worked with Rob Zombie, Ozzy, Metallica, Minsitry, Otep etc.

The songs do have an energy too them i like. Great for lifting smile and i can admit some of their songs are good on that level. But i don't see them as great beyond that.

What are some orgers opinions on slipknot?

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Hmmmm.

My wife liked them, but I remember watching a DVD from one of their concerts and their fans put me off. They all looked wannabe thugs with the IQ of a tin opener.

I know you shouldn't judge a band by their fanbase, but I can't help it, it just turned me off.

Fantastic, fantastic band. Their debut album on Roadrunner blew the metal scene apart. RIDICULOUSLY huge here in the UK. I've yet to see them live, but I have seen lead singer Corey Taylor's other band, Stone Sour, who were great.

Whether you like metal or not, there's some fantastic musicians in that band.

Horrible Horrible band with Horrible Skater/Mall Goths fans who went around calling people(and me) faggots.

Basically ICP with 8 drummers.

with that said, they are good bussiness men they know how to milk a gimmick and satisfy melodramatic capitalist teenage drama, e.g. "MOM, IF YOU DONT BUY ME THE NEW SLPKNOT ALBUM, I"LL KILL MYSELF GOD MOM YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ME" i have heard that so many times in High School.

Well C'mon Teletubby Teleport Us to MARS!!

They call their fans maggots. And they are nothing like ICP. Corey is an absolutely fantastic vocalist, and Joey is a fantastic drummer.

I've actually never bought any of their albums, I don't think. But lots of my friends were fans when I was at school. I've heard their first album a lot and I think it's excellent. And I liked the singles that I've heard a lot, from their last album. I would like to see them live at some point.

I don't really know what their overall fanbase is like. I live in the city that invented heavy metal, so we may have a skewed opinion on it, here.

They sure are intense, and were pretty original for the time. I have respect for how totally committed to their thing they are. I'm more of an old school thrash guy myself so never got that heavy into the music.

The only thing that bugged me about them was their appearance on the History Of Metal series for VH1, where one of the members looks deadly serious into the camera and says "This is not meant to be ALICE COOPER, man. This is my pain. This is real." I think he should have a lot more respect for Alice Cooper, myself.
