When it time came to announce the latest celebrity to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, who did the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce call? Ray Parker Jr.

This week, the veteran R&B/funk artist, who is best-known for his chart-topping theme song to the 1984 film Ghostbusters, will become the 2,518th luminary to be honored with a star marker in Hollywood. The unveiling ceremony will take place this Thursday at 11:30 a.m. PT at 7065 Hollywood Boulevard.

Parker will be on hand to perform an acoustic medley of some of his hits, while Bill Withers and famed Motown songwriter Eddie Holland will be guest speakers at the event.

The ceremony will be streamed live on WalkOfFame.com.

"We have amazing musicians on the Walk of Fame and adding Ray Parker Jr. to our famous Walk of Fame is the icing on the cake," says Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president Leron Gubler in a statement. "His star will be next to fellow musical greats Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and The Funk Brothers!"

The 59-year-old Parker's music career dates all the way back to his high-school years, when he played guitar on sessions for the Holland Dozier Holland songwriting team's Hot Wax and Invictus labels.

He went on to tour and/or record with such famous acts as Hancock, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Barry White and Diana Ross.

In the late 1970s, Parker formed his own group, Raydio, which scored a series of top 40 Billboard Hot 100 hits, including "Jack & Jill" "You Can't Change That" and "A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)."

Despite hating the Ghostbusters song. I respect what he's done as a guitarist. That's a very long and great list.

I hate the fact that he is best known for that "Ghostbusters" song. The stuff he did with Raydio is far superior to that song.
