Parliament - "Sir Nose D'voidoffunk - Pay Attention(B3M)"

...

Man, if I was teaching a class in arranging, I would definitely use this cut...I love the way Bernie, Bootsy, Fred Wesley, and George put this track together, starts out very simple, and the way it builds over time.....the gradual layering of bass, vocals, synths, piano and horns-- by 7:37, all the lines are weaving in and out of each other....and right up to the turnaround at the 8:25 mark, when Bootsy's bouncing bassline takes over, to the vocal chorus of, "Have you ever seen such a sight in your Life?...."

I'm not sure if you should use this cut as an example on arranging. You can't really tell the kids that they should get as stoned as possible in the studio. wink

Hollee...finally a thread worthy of my full attention...

I mean...you can take this apart and scrutinise it like the OP does...but because of the tempo you can hear all arrangements pretty easily anyway...

It's the intangible funk of this track which doesn't need explanation or analysis...damn...wish 'African- American' folk had some cultural privacy on this here Org...sigh...anyways, of course children are gonna love the horns at 7.14...

wink I think that, with P-Funk, the antics may have often kept some of the public from getting the sense of musicianship underneath....

Thanks, and so was Your point about the FUNK.....that groovin' space between the notes...THAT part is something you have to just feel, rather than teach...or analyze too closely....
