I always get the feeling his bands are so professional, there isn't much for him to do.

I like some of his music, but his voice isn't very strong and he doesn't stand out of the rest of the band.

Especially in this clip, it feels like the backup singers do most of the work.

So no, i don't see the Maxwell meets Prince vibe.

The other day I was watching some of JTs futuresex era performances, the dude got charisma, and he's a good entertainer, but why I never dug him so much is the fact that if you put him alone on stage, give him an electric guitar he just can't entertain you, his shows always feature hip hop dancers and all and that's THE VERY SAME FORMULA OF SHOWS Britney, JB and everybody in the pop scene uses, n don't get me started with the song playback, JT's 20/20 era was very organized and artistic and I admit it, his album features some good sections in terms of music and production, as well as Futuresex (Like GUN said a while ago, you listen to that album only for production and it can surprise you).

I guess this isnt bad, he has a good team and that's it, I guess what we look for nowadays is an artist with the charisma of Prince or D Angelo, an artist who can blow your mind with his talent as a sole individual, JTs work and all is so BAND-ish, especially when he comes to Fallon, The Roots are always there supporting him, I guess JT is becomaing more like a band.

Thicke and Bruno don't have that.

I mentioned the electric guitar as an example of solo talent, James would easily shut the house down if he does a slick footwork or sings his soul with passion and love.
Also, I agree that we shouldnt relate every artist to Prince as if he was the perfect entertainer or God's child, I cited him cuz I think what people search for today is a solo, an individual who can do everything by himself. Maybe they dont, maybe they just wanna hear good and uplifting music and the last damn they would give is about the guy who sang that or did that , anywho, it's only a thought. I have a strong believe people's itching for true talent isn't dead after all, who knows, an artist can show up just like Lorde and with Stevie or Prince's talent and take the world by storm, while fast songs dudes like Pitbull or Kesha will dream about that kind of respect.
