Was still listening after a minute, so the song was more than 'meh'.

.

The typical 'lamenting over relationship drama', type lyrics, characteristic of her gender, I don't care much for...but the song is easy enough on the ears, it has an intangible something.

.

She must do something for her sore throat though...oh, that's her normal singing voice? Okay.

Her voice has changed over the years. Her first 2 albums her voice was higher and less husky. She was a heavy (cannabis) smoker at one point so that's most likely why it changed. I still like her voice though.

I am too! After the initial disappointment of her being done with the Fleshtone sound, these new songs have majorly grown on me.

Plus, I love the promo she's doing for this album. The little show she did on the Cooking Channel was pretty entertaining to me. Hope she does more of them.

If you will, so will I

The album is called Food but many of the tunes are not about food. I don't get it.

Give the intro Erykah Badu's "Appletree" a listen regarding food. I believe this is what Kelis is serving. I also wonder if this may be a tongue-in-cheek attempt at capitalizing on almost every article calling her the "Milkshake" singer.

.

Sidebar: The remixes for "Jerk Ribs" are god awful. Such potential for something really neat squandered by silly fist n hump Fridays in Hell's Kitchen nonsense. Some of her more recent collaborators (Skream, Crookers, Don Diablo, Basement Jaxx to name a few) should have been called! Fail.

.

Second sidebar: I am obsessed with "Runner". It is just non-stop in my head.

There is a new remix of the track Runnin' remixed by Machinedrum on Soundcloud. Its a pretty nice re-work that is way better than any of the Jerk Ribs remixes. I'd post the link but for some reason I cannot.

Can I say how much I'm enjoying this album. I didn't know much about Dave Sitek before this as I've never listened to TV on the Radio, but he really gave her a complete makeover in terms of style/genre, and its actually quite pleasant. Im just afraid its so different from what she's done before that her regular fans won't buy it. It took me about 5 listens to really appreciate it because its not normally a sound that I'd go for.

Likewise. Really nice 'earthy' sound to it, with the horns and everything, and songs that complement that and just seem very direct and uncomplicated. I'm particularly feeling 'Runner' and 'Hooch', but even something like 'Floyd', which isn't the strongest song, is musically striking and finds its way to a lovely coda.

Haven't heard any Dave Sitek either, but I'm interested in hearing his stuff off the back of this.

Tharrrr ya go.... http://soundcloud.com/nin...achinedrum cool

Pretty good remix - though I still prefer the sparse frankness of the original track.
