i'll go for a top 12 (in no particular order) of (probably) the only 12 albums I own from 1973

stevie wonder - innervisions

marvin gaye - let's get it on

gram parsons - gp

paul mccartney and wings - band on the run

sly and the family stone - fresh

springsteen - the wild, the innocent...

springsteen - greetings

beach boys - holland

donny hathaway - extensions of a man

rolling stones - goats head soup

neil young - time fades away

funkadelic - cosmic slop

I can think of five right now:

1979:

1. John Surman - Upon Reflection
2. Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats

3. Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
4. Stevie Wonder - Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants
5. Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure

Many of my favourite artists released records that were "okay, but great" that year (no way am I going to put that silly second album by Prince there).

Yeah, I don't really like Lodger as an album. Interesting ideas and some classic songs, but the way the album just sounds doesn't make me think too highly of it. Plus, David's singing isn't that great on it.

the only thing I don't like about Lodger is that is too short...

Can only think of Madonna's True Blue, Janet Jackson's Control, Prince's Parade, Peter Gabriel's So and Paul Simon's Graceland.
