The album cover does remind me of the one(s) for Sea Change quite a bit.

Ah, what can be said--stunning, mystical, genius, beauty.

Waking Light is like classic Pink Floyd mixed with Elton John in the 70s. Wow.

I mean, you asked. lol

Let's just say that I've listened to that album quite a few times already. It's not a "modern classic" like Sea Change to me, but it's certainly a worthy "sequel" to that album. The sound is really wide, just like on Sea Change. The melodies aren't necessarily as memorable as on Sea Change, but I like the way some of the songs towards the end convey the feel of late-60s / early-70s stuff. His previous album, Modern Guilt, relied more on production choices to achieve that, but here it's actually the melodies and the way he sings them that does the trick.

All in all, the record is surprisingly good for something that's apparently made of material he didn't feel motivated enough to finish the first time around. Modern Guilt sounded like he was getting tired of "being Beck", but taking a little break seems to have helped.

i've been feeling the same way. although, thinking back, it took a little while for Sea Change

to become as embedded into my whole being as it is today. we've spent 13 years with that

album. still, i think Sea Change will always be my favorit, but this is, like you said, a worthy

'sequel'. i'm already in love with it and i'm sure i'll still be listening to this one more than ten

years from now, just like Sea Change.

I will get this. Love Beck anyway. But I'm just now streaming St. Vincent's new one and I can't imagine that won't be the best this year. lol
